Therefore[ as] I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah,[ even] the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.

Therefore, as surely as I live,” declares the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel,“ surely Moab will become like Sodom, the Ammonites like Gomorrah— a place of weeds and salt pits, a wasteland forever. The remnant of my people will plunder them; the survivors of my nation will inherit their land.”

So Moab will become like Sodom,” announces the Lord who rules over all.“ Ammon will be like Gomorrah. Weeds and salt pits will cover those countries. They will be dry and empty deserts forever. Those who are still left alive among my people will take all their valuable things. So they will receive those lands as their own. And that is just as sure as I am alive.” The Lord is the God of Israel.

Therefore, as I live,” declares the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,“ Moab shall become like Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a land possessed by nettles and salt pits, and a waste forever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the survivors of my nation shall possess them.”

Now, as surely as I live,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel,“ Moab and Ammon will be destroyed— destroyed as completely as Sodom and Gomorrah. Their land will become a place of stinging nettles, salt pits, and eternal desolation. The remnant of my people will plunder them and take their land.”

Therefore, as I live— this is the declaration of the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel— Moab will be like Sodom and the Ammonites like Gomorrah: a place overgrown with weeds, a salt pit, and a perpetual wasteland. The remnant of my people will plunder them; the remainder of my nation will dispossess them.

Therefore, as I live,” declares the Lord of armies, The God of Israel,“ Moab will assuredly be like Sodom, And the sons of Ammon like Gomorrah— Ground overgrown with weeds and full of salt mines, And a permanent desolation. The remnant of My people will plunder them, And the remainder of My nation will inherit them.”

Therefore, as I live,” Says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,“ Surely Moab shall be like Sodom, And the people of Ammon like Gomorrah— Overrun with weeds and saltpits, And a perpetual desolation. The residue of My people shall plunder them, And the remnant of My people shall possess them.”

Therefore as I live, saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall make a prey of them, and the remnant of my nation shall inherit them.

Therefore, as I live— this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel— Moab will be like Sodom and the Ammonites like Gomorrah— a place overgrown with weeds, a salt pit, and a perpetual wasteland. Therefore, as surely as I live,” says the LORD who commands armies, the God of Israel,“ be certain that Moab will become like Sodom and the Ammonites like Gomorrah. They will be overrun by weeds, filled with salt pits, and permanently desolate. Those of my people who are left will plunder their belongings; those who are left in Judah will take possession of their land.”

Therefore as I live, says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, surely Moab will be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and salt pits, and a perpetual desolation. The remnant of my people will plunder them, and the survivors of my nation will inherit them.

The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste,[ and] brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste,[ and] brought to silence;He is gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba: on all their heads[ shall be] baldness,[ and] every beard cut off.In their streets they shall gird themselves with sackcloth: on the tops of their houses, and in their streets, every one shall howl, weeping abundantly.And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard[ even] unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be grievous unto him.My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives[ shall flee] unto Zoar, an heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.For the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate: for the hay is withered away, the grass faileth, there is no green thing.Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the brook of the willows.For the cry is gone round about the borders of Moab; the howling thereof unto Eglaim, and the howling thereof unto Beerelim.For the waters of Dimon shall be full of blood: for I will bring more upon Dimon, lions upon him that escapeth of Moab, and upon the remnant of the land.

But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them.

[ And that] the whole land thereof[ is] brimstone, and salt,[ and] burning,[ that] it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:

Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together,[ and] come to thee.[ As] I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them[ on thee], as a bride[ doeth].

Against Moab thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is spoiled: Kiriathaim is confounded[ and] taken: Misgab is confounded and dismayed.[ There shall be] no more praise of Moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from[ being] a nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.A voice of crying[ shall be] from Horonaim, spoiling and great destruction.Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.For in the going up of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.Flee, save your lives, and be like the heath in the wilderness.For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity[ with] his priests and his princes together.And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD hath spoken.Give wings unto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for the cities thereof shall be desolate, without any to dwell therein.Cursed[ be] he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed[ be] he that keepeth back his sword from blood.Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him wanderers, that shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles.And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.How say ye, We[ are] mighty and strong men for the war?Moab is spoiled, and gone up[ out of] her cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, whose name[ is] the LORD of hosts.The calamity of Moab[ is] near to come, and his affliction hasteth fast.All ye that are about him, bemoan him; and all ye that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken,[ and] the beautiful rod!Thou daughter that dost inhabit Dibon, come down from[ thy] glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee,[ and] he shall destroy thy strong holds.O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth,[ and] say, What is done?Moab is confounded; for it is broken down: howl and cry; tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is spoiled,And judgment is come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahazah, and upon Mephaath,And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Bethdiblathaim,And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Bethgamul, and upon Bethmeon,And upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near.The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith the LORD.Make ye him drunken: for he magnified[ himself] against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.For was not Israel a derision unto thee? was he found among thieves? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove[ that] maketh her nest in the sides of the hole’s mouth.We have heard the pride of Moab,( he is exceeding proud) his loftiness, and his arrogancy, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.I know his wrath, saith the LORD; but[ it shall] not[ be] so; his lies shall not so effect[ it].Therefore will I howl for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab;[ mine heart] shall mourn for the men of Kirheres.O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for thee with the weeping of Jazer: thy plants are gone over the sea, they reach[ even] to the sea of Jazer: the spoiler is fallen upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage.And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting;[ their] shouting[ shall be] no shouting.From the cry of Heshbon[ even] unto Elealeh,[ and even] unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar[ even] unto Horonaim,[ as] an heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods.Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kirheres: because the riches[ that] he hath gotten are perished.For every head[ shall be] bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands[ shall be] cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.[ There shall be] lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the streets thereof: for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein[ is] no pleasure, saith the LORD.They shall howl,[ saying], How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismaying to all them about him.For thus saith the LORD; Behold, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over Moab.Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, and the mighty men’s hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.And Moab shall be destroyed from[ being] a people, because he hath magnified[ himself] against the LORD.Fear, and the pit, and the snare,[ shall be] upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD.He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it,[ even] upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives.Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far[ is] the judgment of Moab.Concerning the Ammonites, thus saith the LORD; Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why[ then] doth their king inherit Gad, and his people dwell in his cities?Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites; and it shall be a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the LORD.Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is spoiled: cry, ye daughters of Rabbah, gird you with sackcloth; lament, and run to and fro by the hedges; for their king shall go into captivity,[ and] his priests and his princes together.Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures,[ saying], Who shall come unto me?Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts, from all those that be about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth; and none shall gather up him that wandereth.And afterward I will bring again the captivity of the children of Ammon, saith the LORD.

For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.

[ As] I live, saith the King, whose name[ is] the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor[ is] among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea,[ so] shall he come.

Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence[ against] the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.

And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none[ shall be] there, and all her princes shall be nothing.And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons,[ and] a court for owls.

And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.

But[ as] truly[ as] I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour[ cities] thereof, saith the LORD;[ so] shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.

The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make[ them] afraid.

For it is written,[ As] I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away[ the punishment] thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away[ the punishment] thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime:But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting,[ and] with the sound of the trumpet:And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all the princes thereof with him, saith the LORD.

Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it;[ their] voice shall sing in the windows; desolation[ shall be] in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the cedar work.

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.

As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour[ cities] thereof, saith the LORD, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it.

The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,Son of man, set thy face against the Ammonites, and prophesy against them;And say unto the Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou saidst, Aha, against my sanctuary, when it was profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into captivity;Behold, therefore I will deliver thee to the men of the east for a possession, and they shall set their palaces in thee, and make their dwellings in thee: they shall eat thy fruit, and they shall drink thy milk.And I will make Rabbah a stable for camels, and the Ammonites a couchingplace for flocks: and ye shall know that I[ am] the LORD.For thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast clapped[ thine] hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all thy despite against the land of Israel;Behold, therefore I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and will deliver thee for a spoil to the heathen; and I will cut thee off from the people, and I will cause thee to perish out of the countries: I will destroy thee; and thou shalt know that I[ am] the LORD.Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Moab and Seir do say, Behold, the house of Judah[ is] like unto all the heathen;Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities[ which are] on his frontiers, the glory of the country, Bethjeshimoth, Baalmeon, and Kiriathaim,Unto the men of the east with the Ammonites, and will give them in possession, that the Ammonites may not be remembered among the nations.And I will execute judgments upon Moab; and they shall know that I[ am] the LORD.Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and hath greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them;Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also stretch out mine hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and they of Dedan shall fall by the sword.And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to mine anger and according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord GOD.Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a despiteful heart, to destroy[ it] for the old hatred;Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will stretch out mine hand upon the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethims, and destroy the remnant of the sea coast.And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I[ am] the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.
