我耶和華不悅斯民、忿怒震烈、必降以災、

惟爾不知羞不知羞或作不見悅之民、當聚集自察、

Bunch yourselves together like straw, you undesirable nation,

And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask[ help] of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders[ and] all the inhabitants of the land[ into] the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,

And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that[ was] before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which[ is] not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

Now in the twenty and fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackclothes, and earth upon them.

Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye[ even] to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he[ is] gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.Who knoweth[ if] he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him;[ even] a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God?Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where[ is] their God?Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people.

Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.To what purpose[ is] the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with;[ it is] iniquity, even the solemn meeting.Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear[ them].And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

I have forsaken mine house, I have left mine heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.Mine heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: therefore have I hated it.Mine heritage[ is] unto me[ as] a speckled bird, the birds round about[ are] against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.

Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of[ our] soul[ is] to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee.With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments[ are] in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.From the sole of the foot even unto the head[ there is] no soundness in it;[ but] wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.
