and to ask the priests who were in the house of the Lord of hosts, and the prophets, saying,“ Should I weep in the fifth month and fast as I have done for so many years?”

並問諸祭司在萬有之主殿中者、及諸先知曰、我歷年以來、在五月間、號哭齋戒、齋戒或作離俗今猶當循此以行否、

by asking the priests of the house of the Lord Almighty and the prophets,“ Should I mourn and fast in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?”

They went to the prophets and priests at the Lord’ s temple. They asked them,“ Should we mourn and go without eating in the fifth month? That’s what we’ve done for many years.”

saying to the priests of the house of the Lord of hosts and the prophets,“ Should I weep and abstain in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?”

They were to ask this question of the prophets and the priests at the Temple of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies:“ Should we continue to mourn and fast each summer on the anniversary of the Temple’s destruction, as we have done for so many years?”

by asking the priests who were at the house of the LORD of Armies as well as the prophets,“ Should we mourn and fast in the fifth month as we have done these many years?”

speaking to the priests who belong to the house of the Lord of armies, and to the prophets, saying,“ Shall I weep in the fifth month and fast, as I have done these many years?”

and to speak unto the priests of the house of Jehovah of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

by asking the priests who were at the house of the Lord of Hosts as well as the prophets,“ Should we mourn and fast in the fifth month as we have done these many years?”

[ And] to speak unto the priests which[ were] in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

by asking both the priests of the temple of the LORD WHO RULES OVER ALL and the prophets,“ Should we weep in the fifth month, fasting as we have done over the years?”

and to speak to the priests of the house of Yahweh of Armies, and to the prophets, saying,“ Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?”

“ Thus says the Lord of hosts:‘ The fast of the fourth month, The fast of the fifth, The fast of the seventh, And the fast of the tenth, Shall be joy and gladness and cheerful feasts For the house of Judah. Therefore love truth and peace.’

“ For the lips of a priest should keep knowledge, And people should seek the law from his mouth; For he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

And in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month( which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.He burned the house of the Lord and the king’s house; all the houses of Jerusalem, that is, all the houses of the great, he burned with fire.

Now in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month( which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, who served the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.He burned the house of the Lord and the king’s house; all the houses of Jerusalem, that is, all the houses of the great, he burned with fire.And all the army of the Chaldeans who were with the captain of the guard broke down all the walls of Jerusalem all around.

Let the priests, who minister to the Lord, Weep between the porch and the altar; Let them say,“ Spare Your people, O Lord, And do not give Your heritage to reproach, That the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples,‘ Where is their God?’”

Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

And you shall come to the priests, the Levites, and to the judge there in those days, and inquire of them; they shall pronounce upon you the sentence of judgment.You shall do according to the sentence which they pronounce upon you in that place which the Lord chooses. And you shall be careful to do according to all that they order you.According to the sentence of the law in which they instruct you, according to the judgment which they tell you, you shall do; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left from the sentence which they pronounce upon you.

“ Say to all the people of the land, and to the priests:‘ When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months during those seventy years, did you really fast for Me— for Me?

And the land shall mourn, every family by itself: the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves;the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of Shimei by itself, and their wives by themselves;all the families that remain, every family by itself, and their wives by themselves.

And in that day the Lord GOD of hosts Called for weeping and for mourning, For baldness and for girding with sackcloth.But instead, joy and gladness, Slaying oxen and killing sheep, Eating meat and drinking wine:“ Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”

And Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people,“ This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn nor weep.” For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law.Then he said to them,“ Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”So the Levites quieted all the people, saying,“ Be still, for the day is holy; do not be grieved.”

“ Thus says the Lord of hosts:‘ Now, ask the priests concerning the law, saying,

And Jesus said to them,“ Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance;

“ And they shall teach My people the difference between the holy and the unholy, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.In controversy they shall stand as judges, and judge it according to My judgments. They shall keep My laws and My statutes in all My appointed meetings, and they shall hallow My Sabbaths.

Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, in sackcloth, and with dust on their heads.Then those of Israelite lineage separated themselves from all foreigners; and they stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.And they stood up in their place and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for one-fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God.

They shall teach Jacob Your judgments, And Israel Your law. They shall put incense before You, And a whole burnt sacrifice on Your altar.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
