by asking the priests of the house of the Lord Almighty and the prophets,“ Should I mourn and fast in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?”

They went to the prophets and priests at the Lord’ s temple. They asked them,“ Should we mourn and go without eating in the fifth month? That’s what we’ve done for many years.”

saying to the priests of the house of the Lord of hosts and the prophets,“ Should I weep and abstain in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?”

They were to ask this question of the prophets and the priests at the Temple of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies:“ Should we continue to mourn and fast each summer on the anniversary of the Temple’s destruction, as we have done for so many years?”

by asking the priests who were at the house of the LORD of Armies as well as the prophets,“ Should we mourn and fast in the fifth month as we have done these many years?”

speaking to the priests who belong to the house of the Lord of armies, and to the prophets, saying,“ Shall I weep in the fifth month and fast, as I have done these many years?”

and to ask the priests who were in the house of the Lord of hosts, and the prophets, saying,“ Should I weep in the fifth month and fast as I have done for so many years?”

and to speak unto the priests of the house of Jehovah of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

by asking the priests who were at the house of the Lord of Hosts as well as the prophets,“ Should we mourn and fast in the fifth month as we have done these many years?”

[ And] to speak unto the priests which[ were] in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

and to speak to the priests of the house of Yahweh of Armies, and to the prophets, saying,“ Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?”

「萬軍之耶和華說，『四月、五月、七月、十月的禁食必成為猶大家歡喜快樂的日子和幸福的節期。因此，你們要喜愛真理與和平。

祭司的嘴唇應持守知識，人民應從他口中尋求訓誨，因為他是萬軍之耶和華的使者。

你們親近上帝，上帝就必親近你們。有罪的人啊，洗淨你們的手吧！三心二意的人啊，潔淨你們的心吧！你們要悲傷、憂愁、痛哭，轉歡笑為悲哀，變歡樂為愁苦。你們要在主面前謙卑，祂必擢升你們。

交給當值的利未祭司和審判官去審理。你們必須執行他們在耶和華所選擇的地方宣告的判決，你們要謹慎遵行他們的一切指示。他們教導你們律法，宣佈判決後，你們必須完全執行，絲毫不可偏離。

「你要對境內的民眾和祭司說，『七十年來，你們在五月和七月禁食、哀傷，難道真的是為了我嗎？

境內家家戶戶都必哀哭。大衛家的男子在一處，女子在一處；拿單家的男子在一處，女子在一處；利未家的男子在一處，女子在一處；示每家的男子在一處，女子在一處。其餘各家也都哀哭，男女分開。

那日，萬軍之耶和華呼召你們哭泣哀號，剃光頭髮，身披麻衣。但你們還是歡喜作樂，宰牛殺羊，喝酒吃肉，說：「讓我們吃喝吧！因為明天我們就死了。」

全體民眾聽到律法書上的話都哭了。尼希米省長、律法教師以斯拉祭司和教導民眾的利未人對他們說：「今天是你們上帝耶和華的聖日，不要悲哀、哭泣。」尼希米又說：「你們去吃肥美的肉，喝甘甜的酒，並分些給一無所有的人，因為今天是我們主的聖日。不要悲傷，因為從耶和華而來的喜樂就是你們的力量。」利未人使全體民眾安靜，說：「請安靜，因為今天是聖日。不要悲傷。」

「萬軍之耶和華說，『你去問祭司，

耶穌對他們說：「新郎和賓客還在一起的時候，賓客怎能悲傷呢？但有一天新郎將被帶走，那時他們就要禁食了。

哭泣有時，歡笑有時；哀傷有時，雀躍有時；

他們要教導我的子民辨別聖與俗，潔淨與不潔淨。他們要審理訴訟之事，按我的律例斷是非。他們必須按我定的律例和法度遵守一切節期，守安息日為聖日。

這月二十四日，以色列人聚集禁食。他們身披麻衣，頭撒塵土。以色列人與其他外族人隔離，站著承認自己的罪惡和祖先的過犯。他們站在自己的地方，宣讀他們上帝耶和華的律法書，長達三個小時。他們又用了三個小時認罪，敬拜他們的上帝耶和華。

他們把你的典章傳授給雅各，把你的律法傳授給以色列；他們要把香獻在你面前，把全牲燔祭獻在你的壇上。

我的子民因不認識我而遭毀滅。因為你們拒絕認識我，我也要拒絕讓你們做我的祭司；因為你們忘記我的律法，我也要忘記你們的兒女。
