犹大人的长老因着哈该先知和易多的孙子撒迦利亚的信息，迅速重建。他们遵照以色列神的命令，波斯王古列、大利乌和亚达薛西的命令，完成重建圣殿的工作。这殿在大利乌王在位的第六年亚达月初三日，完成了。

于是，这设巴萨回来，奠立了在耶路撒冷神的殿的根基；从那时起，到现在一直在建造，还没有完成。’

告诉他说：‘万军之耶和华这样说：看哪！有一个人名叫大卫的苗裔，他必从自己的地方生长起来，并要建造耶和华的殿。他必建造耶和华的殿，必得尊荣；他必坐在宝座上执掌王权，又必在他的宝座上作祭司，使两者之间和谐共济。’”

众人来到耶路撒冷神的殿以后，第二年二月，撒拉铁的儿子所罗巴伯、约萨达的儿子耶书亚和他们其余的兄弟，就是祭司、利未人和所有从被掳之地回到耶路撒冷的人，就开始动工建造；又委派二十岁以上的利未人，监督耶和华殿的工程。耶书亚和他的儿子及兄弟，甲篾和他的儿子，就是何达威雅的子孙（“何达威雅的子孙”或译：“犹大人”），同心协力监督建造神殿的工人，有利未人希拿达的儿子和兄弟协助他们。建筑工人奠立耶和华殿根基的时候，祭司都穿上礼服，拿着号筒，亚萨子孙的利未人，都拿着响钹，站在自己的位置，按照以色列王大卫所定的仪式赞美耶和华。他们赞美和称谢，向耶和华歌唱，说：“耶和华是至善的，他向以色列人所施的慈爱永远长存。”他们赞美耶和华的时候，众人都大声呼喊，因为耶和华殿的根基已经奠定。很多年老的祭司、利未人和族长，曾经见过先前的殿，眼见这殿的根基再次奠立，就放声大哭，但也有许多人高声欢呼，以致分不清到底是欢呼声或哭声。因为众人都大声呼喊，这声音在很远的地方也可以听见。

使他们都合而为一，像父你在我里面，我在你里面一样；使他们也在我们里面，让世人相信你差了我来。

但我有比约翰更大的见证，因为父赐给我要我完成的工作，就是我所要作的，证明我是父所差来的。差我来的父亲自为我作了见证。他的声音，你们从没有听过；他的容貌，你们从没有见过；

因为神差他的儿子到世上来，不是要定世人的罪，而是要使世人藉着他得救。

万军之耶和华这样说，得了荣耀之后，他差遣我去攻击那些劫掠你们的列国，因为凡触摸你们的，就是触摸他眼中的瞳人。看哪！我要向他们挥动我的手，他们就必成了自己奴仆的掠物。这样，你们就知道万军之耶和华差遣了我。

到那日，许多国家要归附耶和华，作他的（“他的”原文作“我的”）子民，他要（“他要”原文作“我要”）住在你们中间。你们就知道万军之耶和华差遣了我到你们那里去。

即使我判断人，我的判断也是正确的，因为我不是独自一人，而是差我来的父和我在一起。你们的律法上也写着：‘两个人的见证才是真的。’我为自己作证，差我来的父也为我作证。”

专一注视耶稣，就是那位信心的创造者和完成者。他因为那摆在面前的喜乐，就忍受了十字架，轻看了羞辱，现在就坐在神宝座的右边。

你们要就近我，当听这话：‘从起初我就没有在隐密处说过话，自从有这事情的存在，我就在那里。’现在主耶和华差遣了我和他的灵。

我告诉你，你是彼得，我要在这磐石上建立我的教会，死亡的权势﹙“死亡的权势”原文作“阴间的门”。﹚不能胜过他。

远方的人也要来建造耶和华的殿，你们就知道万军之耶和华差遣了我到你们这里来。你们若留心听从耶和华你们神的话，这事必定成就。
