An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

An elder must be without blame. He must be faithful to his wife. His children must be believers. They must not give anyone a reason to say that they are wild and don’t obey.

An elder must live a blameless life. He must be faithful to his wife, and his children must be believers who don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious.

An elder must be blameless, the husband of one wife, with faithful children who are not accused of wildness or rebellion.

namely, if any man is beyond reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of indecent behavior or rebellion.

if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination.

if any man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children that believe, who are not accused of riot or unruly.

one who is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of wildness or rebellion.

Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive,for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil.Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.

Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well.

He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.

For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party.

They shall not marry a widow or a divorced woman, but only virgins of the offspring of the house of Israel, or a widow who is the widow of a priest.

They shall not marry a prostitute or a woman who has been defiled, neither shall they marry a woman divorced from her husband, for the priest is holy to his God.

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.

On that day I will fulfill against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.And I declare to him that I am about to punish his house forever, for the iniquity that he knew, because his sons were blaspheming God, and he did not restrain them.

The one who keeps the law is a son with understanding, but a companion of gluttons shames his father.

Why then do you scorn my sacrifices and my offerings that I commanded for my dwelling, and honor your sons above me by fattening yourselves on the choicest parts of every offering of my people Israel?’Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares:‘ I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ but now the Lord declares:‘ Far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

Now Eli was very old, and he kept hearing all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who were serving at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth.

A widow, or a divorced woman, or a woman who has been defiled, or a prostitute, these he shall not marry. But he shall take as his wife a virgin of his own people,

Then Elkanah went home to Ramah. And the boy was ministering to the Lord in the presence of Eli the priest.
