耶和华见利亚失宠，就使她生育，拉结却不生育。

以扫举目观看，看见妇人和孩子，就问：“这些与你同来的人是谁？”雅各回答：“是神赐给你仆人的孩子。”

我女儿，现在你不要怕，你所说的，我一定去作。本城的人都知道你是个贤惠的女人。

儿女是耶和华所赐的产业，腹中的胎儿是他的赏赐。

他使不能生育的妇人安居家中，成了有许多儿女的快乐母亲。你们要赞美耶和华。

那时我祈求为要得这孩子，耶和华已经把我向他所求的赐给我了，

愿耶和华从这少妇赐你后裔，使你的家像他玛从犹大所生法勒斯的家一般。”

亚伯拉罕祷告神，神就医好了亚比米勒和他的妻子，以及他的众婢女，使她们能生育。因为耶和华为了亚伯拉罕妻子撒拉的缘故，曾经使亚比米勒家中所有的妇女，都不能生育。耶和华照着以前所说的，眷顾撒拉；耶和华按着他的应许，给撒拉作成。亚伯拉罕年老的时候，撒拉怀了孕，到了神应许的日期，就给亚伯拉罕生了一个儿子。亚伯拉罕给撒拉为他所生的儿子，起名叫以撒。

神顾念拉结，垂听了她的祷告，使她能生育。拉结就怀孕，生了一个儿子，说：“神把我的耻辱除去了。”

雅各就向拉结生气，说：“使你不能生育的是神，我能代替他吗？”

以撒因为自己的妻子不生育，就为她恳求耶和华。耶和华应允了他，他的妻子利百加就怀了孕。

饱足的，要劳碌觅食，饥饿的，不再饥饿；不能生育的，生了七个儿女，有过许多儿女的，反倒衰微。
