Now the first covenant also had regulations for ministry and an earthly sanctuary.

For you are a holy people belonging to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be his own possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.

“ You are sons of the LORD your God; do not cut yourselves or make a bald spot on your head on behalf of the dead,

For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

He then took the covenant scroll and read it aloud to the people. They responded,“ We will do and obey all that the LORD has commanded.”Moses took the blood, splattered it on the people, and said,“ This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you concerning all these words.”

For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out,“ Abba, Father!”

Isn’t Ephraim a precious son to me, a delightful child? Whenever I speak against him, I certainly still think about him. Therefore, my inner being yearns for him; I will truly have compassion on him. This is the LORD’s declaration.

Moses went up the mountain to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain:“ This is what you must say to the house of Jacob and explain to the Israelites:‘ You have seen what I did to the Egyptians and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.Now if you will carefully listen to me and keep my covenant, you will be my own possession out of all the peoples, although the whole earth is mine,and you will be my kingdom of priests and my holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to say to the Israelites.”

This is my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you, which you are to keep: Every one of your males must be circumcised.

“ Listen to me, house of Jacob, all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been sustained from the womb, carried along since birth.

Considerable in every way. First, they were entrusted with the very words of God.

The LORD said to Moses,“ You are about to rest with your ancestors, and these people will soon prostitute themselves with the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will abandon me and break the covenant I have made with them.

But Jesus has now obtained a superior ministry, and to that degree he is the mediator of a better covenant, which has been established on better promises.For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second one.But finding fault with his people, he says: See, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—not like the covenant that I made with their ancestors on the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. I showed no concern for them, says the Lord, because they did not continue in my covenant.For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

“ Listen to another parable: There was a landowner, who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a watchtower. He leased it to tenant farmers and went away.

On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying,“ I give this land to your offspring, from the Brook of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates River:

Behind the second curtain was a tent called the most holy place.

He gave up his strength to captivity and his splendor to the hand of a foe.

When Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with the LORD, he heard the voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim. He spoke to him that way.

He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David,just as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets in ancient times;salvation from our enemies and from the hand of those who hate us.He has dealt mercifully with our ancestors and remembered his holy covenant—the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant that we,having been rescued from the hand of our enemies, would serve him without fearin holiness and righteousness in his presence all our days.

God is indeed good to Israel, to the pure in heart.

I will not violate my covenant or change what my lips have said.

But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham, my friend—

Let your work be seen by your servants, and your splendor by their children.

Then I gave them my statutes and explained my ordinances to them— the person who does them will live by them.I also gave them my Sabbaths to serve as a sign between me and them, so that they would know that I am the LORD who consecrates them.

You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors, saying to Abraham, And all the families of the earth will be blessed through your offspring.God raised up his servant and sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways.”

He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercyto Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he spoke to our ancestors.

The LORD also said to Moses,“ Write down these words, for I have made a covenant with you and with Israel based on these words.”

I will confirm my covenant that is between me and you and your future offspring throughout their generations. It is a permanent covenant to be your God and the God of your offspring after you.

Remember them, my God, for defiling the priesthood as well as the covenant of the priesthood and the Levites.

When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.

When you enter the land that the LORD will give you as he promised, you are to observe this ceremony.

for the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

And we ourselves proclaim to you the good news of the promise that was made to our ancestors.God has fulfilled this for us, their children, by raising up Jesus, as it is written in the second Psalm: You are my Son; today I have become your Father.

The LORD said,“ I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn an oath to David my servant:

You came down on Mount Sinai, and spoke to them from heaven. You gave them impartial ordinances, reliable instructions, and good statutes and commands.You revealed your holy Sabbath to them, and gave them commands, statutes, and instruction through your servant Moses.

The cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

The sun will no longer be your light by day, and the brightness of the moon will not shine on you. The LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your splendor.

So I gaze on you in the sanctuary to see your strength and your glory.

Then Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said about him,“ Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”

“ Instead, this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days”— the LORD’s declaration.“ I will put my teaching within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

“ Your name will no longer be Jacob,” he said.“ It will be Israel because you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.”

They are physical regulations and only deal with food, drink, and various washings imposed until the time of the new order.

He broke up the soil, cleared it of stones, and planted it with the finest vines. He built a tower in the middle of it and even dug out a winepress there. He expected it to yield good grapes, but it yielded worthless grapes.

I am making this covenant and this oath not only with you,

She named the boy Ichabod, saying,“ The glory has departed from Israel,” referring to the capture of the ark of God and to the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband.“ The glory has departed from Israel,” she said,“ because the ark of God has been captured.”

They will come weeping, but I will bring them back with consolation. I will lead them to wadis filled with water, by a smooth way where they will not stumble, for I am Israel’s Father, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

They say,‘ The LORD has rejected the two families he had chosen.’ My people are treated with contempt and no longer regarded as a nation among them.This is what the LORD says: If I do not keep my covenant with the day and with the night, and if I fail to establish the fixed order of heaven and earth,

For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater to swear by, he swore by himself:I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply you.And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained the promise.For people swear by something greater than themselves, and for them a confirming oath ends every dispute.Because God wanted to show his unchangeable purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, he guaranteed it with an oath,

These are the words of the covenant that the LORD commanded Moses to make with the Israelites in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant he had made with them at Horeb.
