何時視為義、受割禮之後乎、抑受割禮之前乎、非受割禮之後、乃受割禮之前、

試問其若之何而成義耶？在受割之後乎？抑在受割之前乎？曰：不在受割之後、而在受割之前也。

Under what circumstances was it credited? Was it after he was circumcised, or before? It was not after, but before!

How then was it reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision:

This is my requirement that you and your descendants after you must keep: Every male among you must be circumcised.

When Abram was 99 years old, the LORD appeared to him and said,“ I am the sovereign God. Walk before me and be blameless.

In the fourth generation your descendants will return here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its limit.”

Was anyone called after he had been circumcised? He should not try to undo his circumcision. Was anyone called who is uncircumcised? He should not get circumcised.Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Instead, keeping God’s commandments is what counts.

The LORD took him outside and said,“ Gaze into the sky and count the stars– if you are able to count them!” Then he said to him,“ So will your descendants be.”Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD considered his response of faith as proof of genuine loyalty.

For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything; the only thing that matters is a new creation!

Abraham took his son Ishmael and every male in his household( whether born in his house or bought with money) and circumcised them on that very same day, just as God had told him to do.Now Abraham was 99 years old when he was circumcised;his son Ishmael was thirteen years old when he was circumcised.Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised on the very same day.All the men of his household, whether born in his household or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not given birth to any children, but she had an Egyptian servant named Hagar.So Sarai said to Abram,“ Since the LORD has prevented me from having children, have sexual relations with my servant. Perhaps I can have a family by her.” Abram did what Sarai told him.So after Abram had lived in Canaan for ten years, Sarai, Abram’s wife, gave Hagar, her Egyptian servant, to her husband to be his wife.
