凡若輩之種種遭遇、皆足為鑒、載之經籍、所以警我季世之人也。

惟於此首應注意者、乃經中預言、無一能憑私智而解釋也。蓋歷來豫言、本非出人私智、乃古人感於聖神、而為天主之舌人耳。

養怡神於望德、練弘毅於艱辛。

故宜振作爾心、昭昭惺惺、凝神壹志、以望耶穌基督臨格時所攜之聖寵。

蓋吾人之得救也、實有恃乎望德；然已見之望、非望也；夫人於目前之事、亦何所用其望乎？正惟不見、故渴望之、且堅忍熱烈而期待之也。

凡我兄弟、應安心忍耐以俟主來。夫農夫之望收穫嘉穀、必須弗助弗忘、以待秋霖春雨之膏澤也。爾亦當學農夫之忍耐、堅定爾心。蓋主之來臨不遠矣。兄弟不可互相怨尤、庶免遭受審判。蓋審判者已及門矣。諸先知托主名以傳教、忍辱負重、百折不撓、實足為兄弟之楷式。彼等以暫時忍受、換得永久之福樂、不亦可羨乎？約伯之忍耐、爾曾聞之、且曾見之。而主之如何溫燠其晚境、皆昭昭在爾耳目。主之富於惻怛哀矜、於此可見一斑。

不寧惟是、吾人雖處患難、心中恆有至樂。蓋知患難所以生堅忍、堅忍所以致純熟、純熟則有望、有望則決無失望之虞矣。蓋天主之愛、已憑其所賜於吾人之聖神、而沛然傾注於吾人之心矣。

何則、天主不負有心人、對於爾等之工作、爾等之敬愛聖名、供養聖徒、至今未懈、天主必不致忘懷也。惟願爾中人人皆能具此熱情、始終不渝、以成全望德。切勿有所懈弛、當踵效昔賢、篤信不移、堅忍不拔、而終得承嗣恩諾也。方天主之授恩諾於亞伯漢也、憑己而誓曰：『吾必介爾景福、錫爾多子。』其所以憑己而誓者、以無更大者足憑耳。亞伯漢乃寧靜恆忍以待、卒獲所諾。夫人之立誓、必憑大於己者、所以昭慎重而杜爭議也。天主之立誓、亦欲昭示承恩諾者、以其所諾乃一成不變云耳。天主至誠無妄、又重之以一成不變之誓、與一成不變之諾、其所以慰藉吾人、安定吾人之心者、亦云備矣。此恩諾實為吾人停泊之所、前途遠大、希望無窮、穩而且固。此望也、乃吾人靈魂之鐵錨、而糺於閟帷深處者也。

吾魂盼主。惄如調飢。望眼欲穿。嗣音何遲。肌削色奪。如煙薰皮。造次顚沛。守道不移。
