因是亦不可不輸稅；蓋彼既為天主之有司、課稅亦為其所掌也。

This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.

諜者問於耶穌曰：『夫子、吾知爾所言所教、一秉正義、不徇人情。惟天主之道是傳、敢問吾人納稅於凱撒、宜乎否乎？』耶穌燭其詭謀、謂之曰：「胡為見試？且以銀幣示我！夫此為誰氏之像號？』曰：『凱撒也。』耶穌曰：『然則應以凱撒之物歸凱撒、天主之物歸天主耳。』若輩既不能當眾指摘其言、且深佩其應對、語為之塞。

敢請明示爾意、納稅於凱撒、宜乎否乎？』耶穌心知其詐、對曰：『虛偽之徒試予何為？且以稅錢示我。』乃出錢示之。耶穌曰：『此誰之像、誰之號歟？』曰：『凱撒也。』曰：『當以凱撒之物歸凱撒、而以天主之物歸天主。』

乃曰：『夫子、吾知爾正直無私、不徇人情、惟天主之道是傳。敢問納稅於凱撒、理乎？吾人究應納否？』耶穌心知其詐、曰：『何事見試？取銀予我一觀。』既至、耶穌曰：『此為誰之像號？』曰：『凱撒。』耶穌曰：『應以凱撒之物歸凱撒、而以上主之物歸上主。』無不敬佩。

曰：『輸也。』伯鐸祿入室、耶穌先問曰：『西門於意云何、世之君王、向誰徵課、己子乎？抑外人乎？』對曰：『向外人耳。』耶穌曰：『然則子當免焉。雖然、吾人不欲駭俗也；姑往釣於海、就先獲之魚、啟其口、得錢一枚、取而為我與爾納之。』

勸慰者勸慰。布施務廣、治人務勤。矜貧恤寡、難得滿腔和氣；

『查得此人、煽惑我民、禁人納稅於凱撒、自稱受命之王。』
