但主的日子必要像贼一样来到。在那日，天必轰然一声地消失，所有元素都因烈火而融化；地和地上所有的，都要被烧毁（“被烧毁”有不少古抄本作“被发现”）。

因此，你们要警醒，因为不知道你们的主什么时候要来。你们都知道，家主若晓得窃贼晚上什么时候会来，就会提高警觉，不让他摸进屋里。

（看哪，我来像贼一样！那警醒、看守自己衣服的是有福的！他就不至于赤身行走，让人看见他的羞耻。）

亲爱的，我现在写给你们的是第二封信。在这两封信中，我都用提醒的话来激发你们真诚的心，

但是弟兄们，你们不在黑暗里，以致那日子会临到你们像贼来到一样。你们都是光明之子、白昼之子；我们不是属于黑夜的，也不是属于黑暗的。所以，我们不要沉睡像别人一样，总要警醒谨慎。

所以你们要警醒，因为不知道那日子和那时间。

提摩太啊，你要保守所交托你的，避免世俗的空谈和冒称是知识的那种反调；

因此，我们必须更加密切注意所听过的道理，免得我们随流失去。

不过，你们要持守已经得着的，直到我来。

你们要小心，要警醒，因为你们不知道那日期什么时候来到。

那时，你们必想起你们的恶行和不好的作为，就必因你们的罪孽和可憎恶的事厌恶自己。

凡是我所爱的，我就责备管教；所以你要热心，也要悔改。

恐怕他忽然来到，发现你们正在睡觉。

我曾给她时间，让她悔改，她却不肯为她的淫行悔改。看哪，我要把她抛在大患难的床上；那些跟她行淫乱的人，如果不为她的行为悔改，我也要把他们抛在大患难中。

你要靠着在基督耶稣里的信心和爱心，常常坚守从我这里听过的话，作为纯正话语的模范；

你接纳你姊姊和你妹妹回来的时候，你就会想起你所行的，并要自觉惭愧；我要把她们赐给你作女儿，但这并不是出于我与你所立的约。我要坚立我与你所立的约，你就知道我是耶和华，好使你在我赦免你所行的一切时，就会回想，自觉惭愧，并且因你所受的羞辱不再开口。这是主耶和华的宣告。’”

趁着我还在世上（“在世上”原文作“在这帐棚”）的时候，我认为应当提醒你们，使你们常常警醒，

我必快来！你要持守你所有的，不要让人拿走你的冠冕。

在那里你们要想起你们玷污自己的所作所为，又要为了自己所行的一切恶事而厌恶自己。
