牠的尾巴拖拉着天上星辰的三分之一，把它們摔在地上。然後龍站在那將要生產的婦人面前，等她生產後要吞吃她的孩子。

於是有大鷹的兩個翅膀賜給婦人，讓她能飛到曠野，到自己的地方，躲避那蛇。她在那裏受供養一載二載半載。

「你離開這裏往東去，躲在約旦河東邊的基立溪旁。你要喝那溪裏的水，我已吩咐烏鴉在那裏供養你。」於是以利亞去了，他遵照耶和華的話做，去住在約旦河東的基立溪旁。烏鴉早上給他叼餅和肉來，晚上也有餅和肉，他又喝溪裏的水。

於是，魔鬼離開了耶穌，立刻有天使來伺候他。

他自己在曠野走了一日的路程，來到一棵羅騰樹下，就坐在那裏求死，說：「耶和華啊，現在夠了！求你取我的性命吧，因為我不比我的祖先好。」他躺在羅騰樹下睡着了。看哪，有一個天使拍他，對他說：「起來吃吧！」他觀看，看哪，頭旁有燒熱的石頭烤的餅和一壺水，他就吃了喝了，又再躺下。耶和華的使者回來，第二次拍他，說：「起來吃吧！因為你要走的路很遠。」他就起來吃了喝了，仗着這飲食的力走了四十晝夜，到了神的山，就是何烈山。

「你起身到西頓的撒勒法去，住在那裏，看哪，我已吩咐那裏的一個寡婦供養你。」以利亞就起身往撒勒法去。他到了城門，看哪，有一個寡婦在那裏撿柴。以利亞呼喚她說：「請你用器皿取點水來給我喝。」她去取水的時候，以利亞又呼喚她說：「請你手裏也拿點餅來給我。」她說：「我指着永生的耶和華－你的神起誓，我沒有餅，罈內只有一把麵，瓶裏只有一點油。看哪，我去找兩根柴，帶回家為我和我兒子做餅。我們吃了，就等死吧！」以利亞對她說：「不要怕！你去照你所說的做吧！只要先為我做一個小餅，拿來給我，然後為你和你的兒子做餅；因為耶和華－以色列的神如此說：『罈內的麵必不用盡，瓶裏的油必不短缺，直到耶和華使雨降在地上的日子。』」婦人就照以利亞的話去做。她和以利亞，以及她家中的人，吃了許多日子。罈內的麵果然沒有用盡，瓶裏的油也不短缺，正如耶和華藉以利亞所說的話。
