耶和華說：「雖然他們見過我的作為，卻仍然試探我。

也不要試探主，像他們當中的人那樣，結果被蛇咬死了。

他們絕對看不到我起誓要賜給他們祖先的土地，藐視我的人都看不到那片土地。這些人見過我的榮耀，見過我在埃及和曠野所行的神蹟，卻仍然不聽我的話，試探我十次之多。

可是，他們仍舊試探上帝，反叛至高者，不遵行祂的法度。

然而，他們仍舊犯罪，在曠野反叛至高的上帝。他們頑梗地試探上帝，索要他們想吃的食物。

我如果沒有在他們當中行過空前的神蹟，他們就沒有罪了。然而，他們親眼看見了，竟然還恨我和我的父。

那時，耶穌開始責備一些城鎮，因為祂在那裡行了許多神蹟，當地的居民仍不肯悔改。祂說：「哥拉汛啊，你大禍臨頭了！伯賽大啊，你大禍臨頭了！我在你們當中所行的神蹟，如果行在泰爾和西頓，那裡的人早就身披麻衣，頭蒙灰塵，悔改了。所以我告訴你們，在審判之日，你們將比泰爾和西頓受更重的刑罰！

他們在曠野屢屢反叛祂，使祂傷心。他們再三試探上帝，惹以色列的聖者發怒。
