then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,

Should good be repaid with evil? Yet they have dug a pit for me. Remember how I stood before You to speak good on their behalf, to turn Your anger from them.

Therefore, a Sabbath rest remains for God’s people.

First, be aware of this: Scoffers will come in the last days to scoff, living according to their own desires,saying,“ Where is the promise of His coming? Ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they have been since the beginning of creation.”They willfully ignore this: Long ago the heavens and the earth were brought about from water and through water by the word of God.Through these waters the world of that time perished when it was flooded.But by the same word, the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory.So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Let a cry be heard from their houses when You suddenly bring raiders against them, for they have dug a pit to capture me and have hidden snares for my feet.

Go, my people, enter your rooms and close your doors behind you. Hide for a little while until the wrath has passed.For look, the Lord is coming from His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth will reveal the blood shed on it and will no longer conceal her slain.

But when God is silent, who can declare Him guilty? When He hides His face, who can see Him? Yet He watches over both individuals and nations,

They cried out with a loud voice:“ Lord, the One who is holy and true, how long until You judge and avenge our blood from those who live on the earth?”So a white robe was given to each of them, and they were told to rest a little while longer until the number would be completed of their fellow slaves and their brothers, who were going to be killed just as they had been.

Why should I fear in times of trouble? The iniquity of my foes surrounds me.

The nations were angry, but Your wrath has come. The time has come for the dead to be judged and to give the reward to Your servants the prophets, to the saints, and to those who fear Your name, both small and great, and the time has come to destroy those who destroy the earth.

and to reward with rest you who are afflicted, along with us. This will take place at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with His powerful angels,taking vengeance with flaming fire on those who don’t know God and on those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
