他們仍然試探着至高者上帝，而悖逆他，不守他的法度；

但他們仍然試探、悖逆至高神，不持守他的法度。

惟彼猶試至上上帝、而悖逆之、不守其法兮、

至高上帝、厥有命令、民再犯之、攖其震怒兮、

斯民仍試探叛逆至上之天主、不肯守天主之法度、

頑梗如故。聖命不從。

But they put God to the test and rebelled against the Most High; they did not keep his statutes.

But they tested God. They refused to obey the Most High God. They didn’t keep his laws.

Yet they tested and rebelled against the Most High God and did not keep his testimonies,

But they kept testing and rebelling against God Most High. They did not obey his laws.

But they rebelliously tested the Most High God, for they did not keep his decrees.

Yet they tested and provoked the Most High God, And did not keep His testimonies,

Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, And kept not his testimonies;

But they rebelliously tested the Most High God, for they did not keep His decrees.

Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

Yet they challenged and defied the sovereign God, and did not obey his commands.

Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, and didn’t keep his testimonies,

Then the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals,and they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and they followed other gods from the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them; so they provoked the Lord to anger.

Now this came about because the sons of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, who had brought them up from the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and they had feared other gods.They also followed the customs of the nations whom the Lord had driven out from the sons of Israel, and in the customs of the kings of Israel which they had introduced.And the sons of Israel did things secretly against the Lord their God which were not right. Moreover, they built for themselves high places in all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city.And they set up for themselves memorial stones and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree,and there they burned incense on all the high places as the nations did that the Lord had taken into exile before them; and they did evil things, provoking the Lord.They served idols, concerning which the Lord had said to them,“ You shall not do this thing.”Yet the Lord warned Israel and Judah through all His prophets and every seer, saying,“ Turn back from your evil ways and keep My commandments and My statutes in accordance with all the Law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you through My servants the prophets.”However, they did not listen, but stiffened their neck like their fathers, who did not believe in the Lord their God.They rejected His statutes and His covenant which He made with their fathers, and His warnings which He gave them. And they followed idols and became empty, and followed the nations that surrounded them, about which the Lord had commanded them not to do as they did.And they abandoned all the commandments of the Lord their God and made for themselves cast metal images: two calves. And they made an Asherah, and worshiped all the heavenly lights, and served Baal.Then they made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire, and they practiced divination and interpreting omens, and gave themselves over to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking Him.So the Lord was very angry with Israel, and He removed them from His sight; no one was left except the tribe of Judah.Judah did not keep the commandments of the Lord their God either, but they followed the customs which Israel had introduced.So the Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel and afflicted them and handed them over to plunderers, until He had cast them out of His sight.When He had torn Israel from the house of David, they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king. Then Jeroboam drove Israel away from following the Lord and misled them into a great sin.And the sons of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he committed; they did not desist from themuntil the Lord removed Israel from His sight, just as He had spoken through all His servants the prophets. So Israel went into exile from their own land to Assyria until this day.

How often they rebelled against Him in the wilderness And grieved Him in the desert!Again and again they tempted God, And pained the Holy One of Israel.

“ But Jeshurun became fat and kicked— You have become fat, thick, and obstinate— Then he abandoned God who made him, And rejected the Rock of his salvation.They made Him jealous with strange gods; With abominations they provoked Him to anger.They sacrificed to demons, who were not God, To gods whom they have not known, New gods who came lately, Whom your fathers did not know.You forgot the Rock who fathered you, And forgot the God who gave you birth.“ The Lord saw this, and spurned them Because of the provocation by His sons and daughters.Then He said,‘ I will hide My face from them, I will see what their end will be; For they are a perverse generation, Sons in whom there is no faithfulness.They have made Me jealous with what is not God; They have provoked Me to anger with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation,

“ But you trusted in your beauty and became unfaithful because of your fame, and you poured out your obscene practices on every passer by to whom it might be tempting.You took some of your clothes, made for yourself high places of various colors, and committed prostitution on them, which should not come about nor happen.You also took your beautiful jewels made of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself male images so that you might commit prostitution with them.Then you took your colorfully woven cloth and covered them, and offered My oil and My incense before them.Also My bread which I gave you, fine flour, oil, and honey with which I fed you, you would offer before them for a soothing aroma; so it happened,” declares the Lord God.“ Furthermore, you took your sons and daughters whom you had borne to Me and sacrificed them to idols to be devoured. Were your obscene practices a trivial matter?You slaughtered My children and offered them to idols by making them pass through the fire.And besides all your abominations and obscene practices, you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare and squirming in your blood.“ Then it came about after all your wickedness(‘ Woe, woe to you!’ declares the Lord God),that you built yourself a shrine and made yourself a high place in every public square.You built yourself a high place at the beginning of every street and made your beauty abominable, and you spread your legs to every passer by and multiplied your obscene practice.You also committed prostitution with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, and multiplied your obscene practice to provoke Me to anger.

The Lord said to Moses,“ Behold, you are about to lie down with your fathers; and this people will arise and play the prostitute with the foreign gods of the land into the midst of which they are going, and they will abandon Me and break My covenant which I have made with them.Then My anger will be kindled against them on that day, and I will abandon them and hide My face from them, and they will be consumed, and many evils and troubles will find them; so they will say on that day,‘ Is it not because our God is not among us that these evils have found us?’But I will assuredly hide My face on that day because of all the evil that they will have done, for they will have turned away to other gods.“ Now then, write this song for yourselves, and teach it to the sons of Israel; put it on their lips, so that this song may be a witness for Me against the sons of Israel.For when I bring them into the land flowing with milk and honey, which I swore to their fathers, and they eat and are satisfied and become prosperous, then they will turn to other gods and serve them, and spurn Me and break My covenant.

They captured fortified cities and a fertile land. They took possession of houses full of every good thing, Carved out cisterns, vineyards, olive groves, Fruit trees in abundance. So they ate, were filled and put on fat, And lived luxuriously in Your great goodness.“ But they became rebellious and revolted against You, And threw Your Law behind their backs And killed Your prophets who had admonished them In order to bring them back to You, And they committed great blasphemies.
