The valiant lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands.

Brave soldiers have been robbed of everything they had. Now they lie there, sleeping in death. Not one of them can even lift his hands.

The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep; all the men of war were unable to use their hands.

『心剛硬的人哪，要聽我！絕無救助的人哪，要細聽！

亞述王啊，你的牧民者在睡覺呢！你的貴族在安歇着呢！你的人民四散在山間，無人招聚呢！

永恆主我的上帝啊，垂顧而應我吧，使我眼目光明，免得我沉睡至死；

他們火熱時候，我必為他們擺設酒席，使他們沉醉，以至於暈倒過去，睡個長覺，永不醒起：永恆主發神諭說。

『你要以莊嚴高尚為妝飾，以尊榮大方為服裝。你要發散你滿溢的怒氣，見一切驕傲的人，使他降卑；見一切驕傲的人，使他低微；把惡人踐踏於他們的本處；

『人子啊，我打折了埃及王法老的膀臂；看哪，沒有綁紮以敷醫治的藥，沒有用繃帶綁紮，好使它有力量可以拿刀。因此主永恆主這麼說：看哪，我跟埃及王法老為敵；我必將他有力的膀臂、和已打折的膀臂、全行打斷；使刀從他手中墜落。我必使埃及人分散於列國，使他們四散於列邦。我必使巴比倫王的膀臂有力量，將我的刀交於他手中；法老的膀臂我卻要打斷，他就必在巴比倫王面前哼出死傷人那樣的唉哼。我必助使巴比倫王的膀臂有力量，法老的膀臂卻要下垂。我將我的刀交於巴比倫王手中，他必伸出那刀攻擊埃及地，那時他們就知道我乃是永恆主。

他用他的膀臂施展權能；用狂傲人心裏的妄想趕散了他們；他使有權力的從座位上黜落，使卑微的升高；

現在我，尼布甲尼撒、稱頌、尊崇、歸榮耀於天上的王，因為他所作的全都對，他所行的也都公平；他能把行為驕傲的降為卑微。』

永恆主的使者就出來，在亞述營中擊殺了十八萬五千人；第二天早晨、人清早起來，只見都是死屍。

『亞述人必倒斃於刀下，可不是人的刀；必有刀、可不是人類的刀、要吞滅他；他必逃跑，卻逃不了刀劍，他的壯丁必作苦工。
