For I endure insults for your sake; humiliation is written all over my face.

我為爾受詬詈、羞慚蔽我面兮、

予為爾受凌辱、抱愧怍兮、

緣我為主受毀謗、滿面蒙羞、

惟不欲因予之故兮。而貽恃主者以慚惶。更不欲因予之故兮。而致求主者之失望。

For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face.

Because of you, people laugh at me. My face is covered with shame.

For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach, that dishonor has covered my face.

For I have endured insults because of you, and shame has covered my face.

Because for Your sake I have endured disgrace; Dishonor has covered my face.

Because for Your sake I have borne reproach; Shame has covered my face.

Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; Shame hath covered my face.

For I have endured insults because of You, and shame has covered my face.

Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.

For I suffer humiliation for your sake and am thoroughly disgraced.

Because for your sake, I have borne reproach. Shame has covered my face.

Then I said,“ Lord, you know what’s happening to me. Please step in and help me. Punish my persecutors! Please give me time; don’t let me die young. It’s for your sake that I am suffering.

I offered my back to those who beat me and my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard. I did not hide my face from mockery and spitting.

But for your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.

We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.

But I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all!Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying,“ Is this the one who relies on the Lord? Then let the Lord save him! If the Lord loves him so much, let the Lord rescue him!”

The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed.“ He saved others,” they said,“ let him save himself if he is really God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”The soldiers mocked him, too, by offering him a drink of sour wine.They called out to him,“ If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”

We can’t escape the constant humiliation; shame is written across our faces.

They will do all this to you because of me, for they have rejected the one who sent me.They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them. But now they have no excuse for their sin.Anyone who hates me also hates my Father.If I hadn’t done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be guilty. But as it is, they have seen everything I did, yet they still hate me and my Father.

They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted,“ Hail! King of the Jews!”And they spit on him and grabbed the stick and struck him on the head with it.

Then Herod and his soldiers began mocking and ridiculing Jesus. Finally, they put a royal robe on him and sent him back to Pilate.

Two revolutionaries were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left.The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery.“ Look at you now!” they yelled at him.“ You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross!”The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders also mocked Jesus.“ He saved others,” they scoffed,“ but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him!He trusted God, so let God rescue him now if he wants him! For he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”Even the revolutionaries who were crucified with him ridiculed him in the same way.

Then they began to spit in Jesus’ face and beat him with their fists. And some slapped him,jeering,“ Prophesy to us, you Messiah! Who hit you that time?”
