Lord, you are like a shield that keeps us safe. Don’t kill my enemies all at once. If you do, my people will forget about it. Use your power to pull my enemies up by the roots like weeds. Destroy them.

For the living know that they will die, but the dead do not know anything; they have no further reward– and even the memory of them disappears.

In those days people will seek death, but will not be able to find it; they will long to die, but death will flee from them.

When you try to cultivate the ground it will no longer yield its best for you. You will be a homeless wanderer on the earth.”Then Cain said to the LORD,“ My punishment is too great to endure!Look! When Adoni-Bezek ran away, they chased him and captured him. Then they cut off his thumbs and big toes.Adoni-Bezek said,“ Seventy kings, with thumbs and big toes cut off, used to lick up food scraps under my table. God has repaid me for what I did to them.” They brought him to Jerusalem, where he died.

the LORD your God will reverse your captivity and have pity on you. He will turn and gather you from all the peoples among whom he has scattered you.Even if your exiles are in the most distant land, from there the LORD your God will gather you and bring you back.

Look at every proud man and abase him; crush the wicked on the spot!

Again, however, pay very careful attention, lest you forget the things you have seen and disregard them for the rest of your life; instead teach them to your children and grandchildren.

For the LORD God is our sovereign protector. The LORD bestows favor and honor; he withholds no good thing from those who have integrity.
