But I am deaf to all their threats. I am silent before them as one who cannot speak.

我如聾者不聞聲、瘖者不啟口、

我不言不聽、如聾如啞兮、

我如耳聾不聞、如瘖者不啟口、

仇人仍設網。殺我方甘心。群聚議詭計。終日出惡聲。

I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, like the mute, who cannot speak;

Like a deaf person, I can’t hear. Like someone who can’t speak, I can’t say a word.

But I am like a deaf man; I do not hear, like a mute man who does not open his mouth.

I am like a deaf person; I do not hear. I am like a speechless person who does not open his mouth.

But I, like a person who is deaf, do not hear; And I am like a person who cannot speak, who does not open his mouth.

But I, like a deaf man, do not hear; And I am like a mute who does not open his mouth.

But I, as a deaf man, hear not; And I am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

I am like a deaf person; I do not hear. I am like a speechless person who does not open his mouth.

I am silent before you; I won’t say a word, for my punishment is from you.

But as I stood there in silence— not even speaking of good things— the turmoil within me grew worse.

He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.

“ No!” the king said.“ Who asked your opinion, you sons of Zeruiah! If the Lord has told him to curse me, who are you to stop him?”Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants,“ My own son is trying to kill me. Doesn’t this relative of Saul have even more reason to do so? Leave him alone and let him curse, for the Lord has told him to do it.And perhaps the Lord will see that I am being wronged and will bless me because of these curses today.”
