Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

緘默於耶和華前、忍以望之、人之道途通達、人之惡謀得成、勿為之生煩擾兮、

惟耶和華是賴、望其庇佑兮、惡者亨通、謀為得成、爾心毋為不平兮。

爾當默然倚賴主、仰望主、莫因惡人亨通、惡謀成就、心懷不平、

應向天主前。默默披心腹。莫因小人達。中心懷不服。

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Be still and wait patiently for the Lord to act. Don’t be upset when other people succeed. Don’t be upset when they carry out their evil plans.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

Be silent before the LORD and wait expectantly for him; do not be agitated by one who prospers in his way, by the person who carries out evil plans.

Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; Do not get upset because of one who is successful in his way, Because of the person who carries out wicked schemes.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

Rest in Jehovah, and wait patiently for him: Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Wait patiently for the LORD! Wait confidently for him! Do not fret over the apparent success of a sinner, a man who carries out wicked schemes!

Rest in Yahweh, and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.

Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen.You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.Don’t grumble about each other, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. For look— the Judge is standing at the door!For examples of patience in suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.

Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.“ For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.

Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.

Don’t say,“ I will get even for this wrong.” Wait for the Lord to handle the matter.

This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.

I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.

The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.

I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him.

Lord, you always give me justice when I bring a case before you. So let me bring you this complaint: Why are the wicked so prosperous? Why are evil people so happy?

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:“ Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.

I will wait for the Lord, who has turned away from the descendants of Jacob. I will put my hope in him.

I saw that one of the heads of the beast seemed wounded beyond recovery— but the fatal wound was healed! The whole world marveled at this miracle and gave allegiance to the beast.They worshiped the dragon for giving the beast such power, and they also worshiped the beast.“ Who is as great as the beast?” they exclaimed.“ Who is able to fight against him?”Then the beast was allowed to speak great blasphemies against God. And he was given authority to do whatever he wanted for forty two months.And he spoke terrible words of blasphemy against God, slandering his name and his dwelling— that is, those who dwell in heaven.And the beast was allowed to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And he was given authority to rule over every tribe and people and language and nation.And all the people who belong to this world worshiped the beast. They are the ones whose names were not written in the Book of Life that belongs to the Lamb who was slaughtered before the world was made.Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.Anyone who is destined for prison will be taken to prison. Anyone destined to die by the sword will die by the sword. This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently and remain faithful.

For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness.They seem to live such painless lives; their bodies are so healthy and strong.They don’t have troubles like other people; they’re not plagued with problems like everyone else.They wear pride like a jeweled necklace and clothe themselves with cruelty.These fat cats have everything their hearts could ever wish for!They scoff and speak only evil; in their pride they seek to crush others.They boast against the very heavens, and their words strut throughout the earth.And so the people are dismayed and confused, drinking in all their words.“ What does God know?” they ask.“ Does the Most High even know what’s happening?”Look at these wicked people— enjoying a life of ease while their riches multiply.Did I keep my heart pure for nothing? Did I keep myself innocent for no reason?I get nothing but trouble all day long; every morning brings me pain.

On the day the Lord gave the Israelites victory over the Amorites, Joshua prayed to the Lord in front of all the people of Israel. He said,“ Let the sun stand still over Gibeon, and the moon over the valley of Aijalon.”

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

And since the storm was getting worse all the time, they asked him,“ What should we do to you to stop this storm?”

Don’t be surprised if you see a poor person being oppressed by the powerful and if justice is being miscarried throughout the land. For every official is under orders from higher up, and matters of justice get lost in red tape and bureaucracy.

He boasts,“ By my own powerful arm I have done this. With my own shrewd wisdom I planned it. I have broken down the defenses of nations and carried off their treasures. I have knocked down their kings like a bull.I have robbed their nests of riches and gathered up kingdoms as a farmer gathers eggs. No one can even flap a wing against me or utter a peep of protest.”

“ Why do the wicked prosper, growing old and powerful?They live to see their children grow up and settle down, and they enjoy their grandchildren.Their homes are safe from every fear, and God does not punish them.Their bulls never fail to breed. Their cows bear calves and never miscarry.They let their children frisk about like lambs. Their little ones skip and dance.They sing with tambourine and harp. They celebrate to the sound of the flute.They spend their days in prosperity, then go down to the grave in peace.And yet they say to God,‘ Go away. We want no part of you and your ways.Who is the Almighty, and why should we obey him? What good will it do us to pray?’( They think their prosperity is of their own doing, but I will have nothing to do with that kind of thinking.)“ Yet the light of the wicked never seems to be extinguished. Do they ever have trouble? Does God distribute sorrows to them in anger?Are they driven before the wind like straw? Are they carried away by the storm like chaff? Not at all!“‘ Well,’ you say,‘ at least God will punish their children!’ But I say he should punish the ones who sin, so that they understand his judgment.Let them see their destruction with their own eyes. Let them drink deeply of the anger of the Almighty.For they will not care what happens to their family after they are dead.“ But who can teach a lesson to God, since he judges even the most powerful?One person dies in prosperity, completely comfortable and secure,the picture of good health, vigorous and fit.Another person dies in bitter poverty, never having tasted the good life.But both are buried in the same dust, both eaten by the same maggots.“ Look, I know what you’re thinking. I know the schemes you plot against me.You will tell me of rich and wicked people whose houses have vanished because of their sins.But ask those who have been around, and they will tell you the truth.Evil people are spared in times of calamity and are allowed to escape disaster.No one criticizes them openly or pays them back for what they have done.When they are carried to the grave, an honor guard keeps watch at their tomb.A great funeral procession goes to the cemetery. Many pay their respects as the body is laid to rest, and the earth gives sweet repose.“ How can your empty clichés comfort me? All your explanations are lies!”

I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer.

“ The king will do as he pleases, exalting himself and claiming to be greater than every god, even blaspheming the God of gods. He will succeed, but only until the time of wrath is completed. For what has been determined will surely take place.
