The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed.“ He saved others,” they said,“ let him save himself if he is really God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”

A large crowd trailed behind, including many grief stricken women.

The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery.“ Look at you now!” they yelled at him.“ You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross!”The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders also mocked Jesus.

But many were amazed when they saw him. His face was so disfigured he seemed hardly human, and from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man.

Their flesh wastes away, and their bones stick out.

Look at you now!” they yelled at him.“ You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days.Well then, save yourself and come down from the cross!”The leading priests and teachers of religious law also mocked Jesus.“ He saved others,” they scoffed,“ but he can’t save himself!Let this Messiah, this King of Israel, come down from the cross so we can see it and believe him!” Even the men who were crucified with Jesus ridiculed him.

Then they sat around and kept guard as he hung there.

For my days disappear like smoke, and my bones burn like red hot coals.My heart is sick, withered like grass, and I have lost my appetite.Because of my groaning, I am reduced to skin and bones.
