Though the Lord is on high, Yet He regards the lowly; But the proud He knows from afar.

主雖至高、仍垂顧卑微之人、又從遠處鑒察驕傲之人、

高高無與比。謙謙獨蒙憐。驕者終被抑。傲人遭棄捐。

Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, he sees them from afar.

Though the Lord is high above all, he cares for the lowly. Though he is in heaven above, he sees them on earth below.

For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar.

Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud.

Who is like the Lord our God, Who dwells on high,Who humbles Himself to behold The things that are in the heavens and in the earth?

For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:“ I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:“ God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

The Lord makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up.He raises the poor from the dust And lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes And make them inherit the throne of glory.“ For the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, And He has set the world upon them.

Surely He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down.

These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,

For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist,” Says the Lord.“ But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.

“ Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre,‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ Because your heart is lifted up, And you say,‘ I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas,’ Yet you are a man, and not a god, Though you set your heart as the heart of a god( Behold, you are wiser than Daniel! There is no secret that can be hidden from you!With your wisdom and your understanding You have gained riches for yourself, And gathered gold and silver into your treasuries;By your great wisdom in trade you have increased your riches, And your heart is lifted up because of your riches),”‘ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD:“ Because you have set your heart as the heart of a god,Behold, therefore, I will bring strangers against you, The most terrible of the nations; And they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, And defile your splendor.They shall throw you down into the Pit, And you shall die the death of the slain In the midst of the seas.“ Will you still say before him who slays you,‘ I am a god’? But you shall be a man, and not a god, In the hand of him who slays you.

For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise.

And the people kept shouting,“ The voice of a god and not of a man!”Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.

He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.He has put down the mighty from their thrones, And exalted the lowly.He has filled the hungry with good things, And the rich He has sent away empty.

“ Then He will also say to those on the left hand,‘ Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

The loftiness of man shall be bowed down, And the haughtiness of men shall be brought low; The Lord alone will be exalted in that day,

Disperse the rage of your wrath; Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him.Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low; Tread down the wicked in their place.

But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.Then he was driven from the sons of men, his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses.“ But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this.And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.Then the fingers of the hand were sent from Him, and this writing was written.

For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.

The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, The haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, And the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.

You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for“ God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,

Now I know that the Lord is greater than all the gods; for in the very thing in which they behaved proudly, He was above them.”
