I am overwhelmed with indignation, for my enemies have disregarded your words.

群小叛道。我心如焚。

My zeal wears me out, for my enemies ignore your words.

My anger is wearing me out, because my enemies don’t pay any attention to your words.

My zeal consumes me, because my foes forget your words.

My anger overwhelms me because my foes forget your words.

My zeal has consumed me, Because my enemies have forgotten Your words.

My zeal has consumed me, Because my enemies have forgotten Your words.

My zeal hath consumed me, Because mine adversaries have forgotten thy words.

Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures:“ Passion for God’s house will consume me.”

Passion for your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.

Elijah replied,“ I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.”

Then Jesus asked them,“ Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures?‘ The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing, and it is wonderful to see.’

For instance, God says,‘ Honor your father and mother,’ and‘ Anyone who speaks disrespectfully of father or mother must be put to death.’But you say it is all right for people to say to their parents,‘ Sorry, I can’t help you. For I have vowed to give to God what I would have given to you.’In this way, you say they don’t need to honor their parents. And so you cancel the word of God for the sake of your own tradition.

So a time was set, and on that day a large number of people came to Paul’s lodging. He explained and testified about the Kingdom of God and tried to persuade them about Jesus from the Scriptures. Using the law of Moses and the books of the prophets, he spoke to them from morning until evening.Some were persuaded by the things he said, but others did not believe.And after they had argued back and forth among themselves, they left with this final word from Paul:“ The Holy Spirit was right when he said to your ancestors through Isaiah the prophet,‘ Go and say to this people: When you hear what I say, you will not understand. When you see what I do, you will not comprehend.For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes— so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.’

Jesus replied,“ Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.

Jesus said to them,“ Haven’t you read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry?He went into the house of God, and he and his companions broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat.And haven’t you read in the law of Moses that the priests on duty in the Temple may work on the Sabbath?

He replied again,“ I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.”

The people in Jerusalem and their leaders did not recognize Jesus as the one the prophets had spoken about. Instead, they condemned him, and in doing this they fulfilled the prophets’ words that are read every Sabbath.

They asked Jesus,“ Do you hear what these children are saying?”“ Yes,” Jesus replied.“ Haven’t you ever read the Scriptures? For they say,‘ You have taught children and infants to give you praise.’”

Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn’t think of praying to God.

He said to them,“ The Scriptures declare,‘ My Temple will be called a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves!”

Then he added,“ Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture:‘ I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”
