But ye[ are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

The Spirit of the Lord GOD[ is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to[ them that are] bound;

And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed[ their] stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast[ us] into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.And they came and besought them, and brought[ them] out, and desired[ them] to depart out of the city.And they went out of the prison, and entered into[ the house of] Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon[ him], and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from[ his] hands.And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry[ land].

Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

And if[ they be] bound in fetters,[ and] be holden in cords of affliction;

Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

Before I go[ whence] I shall not return,[ even] to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;A land of darkness, as darkness[ itself; and] of the shadow of death, without any order, and[ where] the light[ is] as darkness.

He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.

That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that[ are] in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures[ shall be] in all high places.

Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners:

He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.

He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
