My son, if you become surety for your friend, If you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger,

我儿，你若为朋友作保，替外人击掌，

我儿啊，你若为朋友担保，替陌生人击掌，

我儿啊，你若为朋友担保，替陌生人击掌，

孩子啊，你若为邻人作保，为外人击掌立约；

我儿，如果你作朋友的保证人，替外人击掌担保；

我儿啊，如果你为邻人作保，为别人击掌起誓，

我兒，你若為朋友作保，替外人擊掌，

我兒啊，你若為朋友擔保，替陌生人擊掌，

我兒啊，你若為朋友擔保，替陌生人擊掌，

孩子啊，你若為鄰人作保，為外人擊掌立約；

我兒，如果你作朋友的保證人，替外人擊掌擔保；

弟子啊，你若為朋友作保，替陌生人擊掌擔保，

我兒啊，如果你為鄰人作保，為別人擊掌起誓，

我子、爾若為鄰作保、為人拊掌、

爾小子、如爾為人中保、已有成言、自貽伊戚、

我子、如爾為友作保、或為外人之事擊掌、擊掌亦作保之義

My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, if you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger,

My son, don’t promise to pay for what your neighbor owes. Don’t agree to pay a stranger’s bill.

My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, have given your pledge for a stranger,

My child, if you have put up security for a friend’s debt or agreed to guarantee the debt of a stranger—

My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor or entered into an agreement with a stranger,

My son, if you have become a guarantor for your neighbor, Or have given a handshake for a stranger,

My son, if thou art become surety for thy neighbor, If thou hast stricken thy hands for a stranger;

My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor or entered into an agreement with a stranger,

My son, if thou be surety for thy friend,[ if] thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

My child, if you have made a pledge for your neighbor, and have become a guarantor for a stranger,

My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger,

A man devoid of understanding shakes hands in a pledge, And becomes surety for his friend.

Do not be one of those who shakes hands in a pledge, One of those who is surety for debts;

He who is surety for a stranger will suffer, But one who hates being surety is secure.

Take the garment of one who is surety for a stranger, And hold it as a pledge when it is for a seductress.

I myself will be surety for him; from my hand you shall require him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever.

Take the garment of him who is surety for a stranger, And hold it in pledge when he is surety for a seductress.

But if he has wronged you or owes anything, put that on my account.I, Paul, am writing with my own hand. I will repay— not to mention to you that you owe me even your own self besides.

by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.
