lest you lose your honor to others and your dignity to one who is cruel,

猶大說：「讓她拿去吧，免得我們成為笑柄。看哪，我把這隻小山羊送去了，只是你找不到她。」大約過了三個月，有人告訴猶大說：「你的兒媳婦塔瑪爾犯了姦淫，看哪，她因行淫而懷了孕！」猶大就說：「把她帶出來燒死！」塔瑪爾被帶出來的時候，她派人到她公公那裡，說：「這些東西是誰的，我就是藉著誰懷的孕！」她又說：「請你確認！這印章、帶子和杖是誰的呢？」猶大認出那些東西，就說：「她比我更顯為義，因為我沒有把她嫁給我兒子示拉。」猶大就再沒有與她同寢。

那與鄰人妻子同房的也是如此；所有碰她的，都難逃罪責。如果竊賊實在飢餓，為了充飢而偷竊，人們不會藐視他；但如果他被發現，就要償還七倍，甚至要交出家裡一切的財物。與女人通姦的，缺乏心智；行這事的，毀滅自己。他必受擊打和羞辱，他的恥辱無法抹掉。因為嫉妒是男人的怒火，他在報復之日必不留情；他不顧任何的贖價，即使禮物增多，他也不會接受。
