我兒，要聽你父親的訓誨，不可離棄你母親的法則；

你們也曉得，我們怎樣勸勉你們，安慰你們，囑咐你們各人，好像父親待自己的兒女一樣，要叫你們行事對得起那召你們進他國、得他榮耀的神。

我兒，你若領受我的言語，存記我的命令，側耳聽智慧，專心求聰明，呼求明哲，揚聲求聰明，尋找它，如尋找銀子，搜求它，如搜求隱藏的珍寶，你就明白敬畏耶和華，得以認識神。

眾弟子啊，你們當來聽我的話！我要將敬畏耶和華的道教訓你們。

所以，我們當越發鄭重所聽見的道理，恐怕我們隨流失去。

眾子啊，現在要聽從我，因為謹守我道的，便為有福。要聽教訓就得智慧，不可棄絕。聽從我、日日在我門口仰望、在我門框旁邊等候的，那人便為有福。因為尋得我的，就尋得生命，也必蒙耶和華的恩惠。得罪我的，卻害了自己的性命；恨惡我的，都喜愛死亡。

你要聽勸教，受訓誨，使你終久有智慧。

你須側耳聽受智慧人的言語，留心領會我的知識。

我兒，要留心我智慧的話語，側耳聽我聰明的言詞，

對智慧說：你是我的姊妹，稱呼聰明為你的親人，

我兒，要謹守你父親的誡命；不可離棄你母親的法則，要常繫在你心上，掛在你項上。你行走，它必引導你；你躺臥，它必保守你；你睡醒，它必與你談論。因為誡命是燈，法則是光，訓誨的責備是生命的道，
