Do not spend time among drunkards, among those who eat too much meat,

Don’t be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat:

And do not get drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit,

Those who are champions at drinking wine are as good as dead, who display great courage when mixing strong drinks.

Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in discord and jealousy.

“ But be on your guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day close down upon you suddenly like a trap.

Those who get up early to drink beer are as good as dead, those who keep drinking long after dark until they are intoxicated with wine.

Wine is a mocker and strong drink is a brawler; whoever goes astray by them is not wise.

The one who keeps the law is a discerning child, but a companion of gluttons brings shame to his parents.

and he begins to beat his fellow slaves and to eat and drink with drunkards,

For the time that has passed was sufficient for you to do what the non- Christians desire. You lived then in debauchery, evil desires, drunkenness, carousing, drinking bouts, and wanton idolatries.So they are astonished when you do not rush with them into the same flood of wickedness, and they vilify you.

But look, there is outright celebration! You say,“ Kill the ox and slaughter the sheep, eat meat and drink wine. Eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”

“ There was a rich man who dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day.

Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has dullness of the eyes?Those who linger over wine, those who go looking for mixed wine.Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.Afterward it bites like a snake, and stings like a viper.Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will speak perverse things.And you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, and like one who lies down on the top of the rigging.You will say,“ They have struck me, but I am not harmed! They beat me, but I did not know it! When will I awake? I will look for another drink.”

Give strong drink to the one who is perishing, and wine to those who are bitterly distressed;let them drink and forget their poverty, and remember their misery no more.

After a few days, the younger son gathered together all he had and left on a journey to a distant country, and there he squandered his wealth with a wild lifestyle.
