作父親的，你們不要激怒兒女，但要照着主的教導和勸戒養育他們。

是我們所聽見、所知道，我們的祖宗告訴我們的。我們不要向子孫隱瞞這些事，而要將耶和華的美德和他的能力，並他所行的奇事，述說給後代聽。他在雅各中立法度，在以色列中設律法；他吩咐我們的祖宗要傳給子孫，使將要生的後代子孫可以曉得。他們也要起來告訴他們的子孫，

所以，我將這孩子獻給耶和華，使他終生歸給耶和華。」他就在那裏敬拜耶和華。

現在，看哪，有這王行走在你們前面。我已年老髮白，看哪，我的兒子都在你們這裏。我從幼年直到今日都行走在你們前面。我在這裏，你們要在耶和華和他的受膏者面前為我作證，我奪過誰的牛，搶過誰的驢，欺負過誰，虐待過誰，從誰手裏收過賄賂而蒙蔽自己的眼目呢？若有，我必償還。」

撒母耳這孩子漸漸長大，耶和華與人越發喜愛他。
