愚妄人所行的，在自己眼中看为正直，只有智慧人肯听劝告。

我儿，要听从你父亲的教训，不可离弃你母亲的训诲。

“有一个财主，身穿紫色袍和细麻衣，天天奢华宴乐。又有一个乞丐，名叫拉撒路，满身是疮，被人放在财主门口，想得财主桌子上掉下来的零碎充饥；并且有狗来舔他的疮。后来乞丐死了，被天使送到亚伯拉罕的怀里。那财主也死了，并且埋葬了。财主在阴间受痛苦，举目远远望见亚伯拉罕，和他怀里的拉撒路，

听从我，天天在我门口警醒仰望，在我门框旁边守候的人，是有福的。因为找到我的，就找到生命，他也必得着耶和华的恩惠。

我儿，如果你接受我的话，把我的诫命珍藏在心里，留心听智慧，致力求聪明；如果你为求哲理而呼喊，为求聪明而扬声；如果你寻找它如同寻找银子，搜寻它好像搜寻宝藏；你就明白怎样敬畏耶和华，并且获得对神的认识。因为耶和华赐人智慧，知识和聪明都出自他的口。他为正直人珍藏大智慧，给行为完全的人作盾牌；为要看顾正直人的路径，护卫虔诚人的道路。这样，你就明白公义、公正、正直，以及一切善道。

孩子们，要听父亲的教训，留心学习哲理；

求你教导我们怎样数算自己的日子，好使我们得着智慧的心。

谁能数算雅各的灰尘？谁能计算以色列的四分之一呢？愿我的死像正直人的死，愿我之终如正直人之终。”

求你使我们早晨饱尝你的慈爱，好使我们一生一世欢呼喜乐。

他在旷野把你的列祖不认识的吗哪赐给你吃，是要使你受苦，要试炼你，使你终久得到福乐；

你要细察完全人，观看正直人；因为爱和平的必有后代。

如果你们有智慧，就可以明白这事，认清自己将来的结局了。
