The human spirit can endure in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?

A cheerful spirit gives strength even during sickness. But you can’t keep going if you have a broken spirit.

A man’s spirit will endure sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?

A person’s spirit can endure sickness, but who can survive a broken spirit?

The spirit of a person can endure his sickness, But as for a broken spirit, who can endure it?

The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, But who can bear a broken spirit?

The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a broken spirit who can bear?

A man’s spirit can endure sickness, but who can survive a broken spirit?

The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

A person’s spirit sustains him through sickness– but who can bear a crushed spirit?

A man’s spirit will sustain him in sickness, but a crushed spirit, who can bear?

A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit.

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.

Each time he said,“ My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.

Now, however, it is time to forgive and comfort him. Otherwise he may be overcome by discouragement.

O Lord, why do you reject me? Why do you turn your face from me?I have been sick and close to death since my youth. I stand helpless and desperate before your terrors.Your fierce anger has overwhelmed me. Your terrors have paralyzed me.

When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long.Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude

When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven, but my soul was not comforted.I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help. Interlude

For I am poor and needy, and my heart is full of pain.

He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed.He told them,“ My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

Your arrows have struck deep, and your blows are crushing me.Because of your anger, my whole body is sick; my health is broken because of my sins.My guilt overwhelms me— it is a burden too heavy to bear.

Their taunts break my bones. They scoff,“ Where is this God of yours?”Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

So Satan left the Lord’s presence, and he struck Job with terrible boils from head to foot.Job scraped his skin with a piece of broken pottery as he sat among the ashes.His wife said to him,“ Are you still trying to maintain your integrity? Curse God and die.”But Job replied,“ You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.

Job stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground to worship.He said,“ I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!”

Fear and trembling overwhelm me, and I can’t stop shaking.

If I am guilty, too bad for me; and even if I’m innocent, I can’t hold my head high, because I am filled with shame and misery.And if I hold my head high, you hunt me like a lion and display your awesome power against me.Again and again you witness against me. You pour out your growing anger on me and bring fresh armies against me.

We can say with confidence and a clear conscience that we have lived with a God given holiness and sincerity in all our dealings. We have depended on God’s grace, not on our own human wisdom. That is how we have conducted ourselves before the world, and especially toward you.

but then you shatter me with dreams and terrify me with visions.I would rather be strangled— rather die than suffer like this.

“ What will you gain if I die, if I sink into the grave? Can my dust praise you? Can it tell of your faithfulness?Hear me, Lord, and have mercy on me. Help me, O Lord.”

My enemies shout at me, making loud and wicked threats. They bring trouble on me and angrily hunt me down.

For the Almighty has struck me down with his arrows. Their poison infects my spirit. God’s terrors are lined up against me.

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?( As the Scriptures say,“ For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”)No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
