喜樂的心使人臉上容光煥發；心中愁苦使人精神頹喪。

好像憂愁，卻是常常喜樂的；好像貧窮，卻使很多人富足；好像是甚麼都沒有，卻是樣樣都有。

心裡喜樂就是良藥；心靈憂鬱使骨頭枯乾。

不但這樣，我們現在已經藉著我們的主耶穌基督與神復和，也藉著他以神為榮。

在盼望中要喜樂，在患難中要堅忍，禱告要恆切。

我們也憑著信，藉著他可以進入現在所站的這恩典中，並且以盼望得享神的榮耀為榮。不但這樣，我們更以患難為榮；知道患難產生忍耐，

約在半夜，保羅和西拉祈禱歌頌神，囚犯們都側耳聽著。

因此，你們要喜樂。然而，你們現今在各種試煉中或許暫時會難過，是要叫你們的信心經過試驗，就比那被火煉過，仍會朽壞的金子更寶貴，可以在耶穌基督顯現的時候，得著稱讚、榮耀和尊貴。你們雖然沒有見過他，卻愛他；現在雖然不能看見他，卻信他。因此，你們就有無法形容、滿有榮耀的大喜樂，

我們既然多受基督所受的痛苦，就靠著基督多得安慰。

倒要歡喜，因為你們既然在基督的受苦上有分，就在他榮耀顯現的時候，可以歡喜快樂。

明慧人的明慧是他生命的泉源；愚妄人的懲罰就是愚妄。

我們引以為榮的，就是我們處世為人，是本著神的聖潔和真誠，不是靠著人的聰明，而是靠著神的恩典，對你們更是這樣，這是我們的良心可以作證的。

他所有的兒女都起來安慰他，他卻不肯接受他們的安慰，說：“我要悲悲哀哀地下到陰間，到我的兒子那裡去。”約瑟的父親就為他哀哭。
