Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.

Whoever makes fun of their neighbor has no sense. But the one who has understanding controls their tongue.

Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent.

It is foolish to belittle one’s neighbor; a sensible person keeps quiet.

Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a person with understanding keeps silent.

One who despises his neighbor lacks sense, But a person of understanding keeps silent.

He who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor, But a man of understanding holds his peace.

He that despiseth his neighbor is void of wisdom; But a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a man with understanding keeps silent.

He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

The one who denounces his neighbor lacks wisdom, but the one who has discernment keeps silent.

When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. (niv)

Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues. (niv)

To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: (niv)

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us, for we have endured no end of contempt.We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud. (niv)

The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. (niv)

Then Zebul said to him,“ Where is your big talk now, you who said,‘ Who is Abimelek that we should be subject to him?’ Aren’t these the men you ridiculed? Go out and fight them!” (niv)

But some scoundrels said,“ How can this fellow save us?” They despised him and brought him no gifts. But Saul kept silent. (niv)

It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor, but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy. (niv)

and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said,“ What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble— burned as they are?”Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said,“ What they are building— even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!”Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. (niv)

But the people remained silent and said nothing in reply, because the king had commanded,“ Do not answer him.” (niv)

After they had gone out into the fields and gathered the grapes and trodden them, they held a festival in the temple of their god. While they were eating and drinking, they cursed Abimelek.Then Gaal son of Ebed said,“ Who is Abimelek, and why should we Shechemites be subject to him? Isn’t he Jerub- Baal’s son, and isn’t Zebul his deputy? Serve the family of Hamor, Shechem’s father! Why should we serve Abimelek?If only this people were under my command! Then I would get rid of him. I would say to Abimelek,‘ Call out your whole army!’” (niv)

“ Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law— there is a curse on them.”Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked,“ Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”They replied,“ Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.” (niv)
