I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old,

He said to them,“ To you is given the mystery of God’s Kingdom, but to those who are outside, all things are done in parables,

I will incline my ear to a proverb. I will solve my riddle on the harp.

But solid food is for those who are full grown, who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern good and evil.

Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said,“ Do you understand what you are reading?”He said,“ How can I, unless someone explains it to me?” He begged Philip to come up and sit with him.

Without a parable he didn’t speak to them; but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the multitudes; and without a parable, he didn’t speak to them,that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,“ I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.”

The disciples came, and said to him,“ Why do you speak to them in parables?”He answered them,“ To you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but it is not given to them.For whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have abundance, but whoever doesn’t have, from him will be taken away even that which he has.Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they don’t see, and hearing, they don’t hear, neither do they understand.In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says,‘ By hearing you will hear, and will in no way understand; Seeing you will see, and will in no way perceive:for this people’s heart has grown callous, their ears are dull of hearing, they have closed their eyes; or else perhaps they might perceive with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again; and I would heal them.’“ But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.For most certainly I tell you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which you see, and didn’t see them; and to hear the things which you hear, and didn’t hear them.

Jesus said to them,“ Have you understood all these things?” They answered him,“ Yes, Lord.”He said to them,“ Therefore every scribe who has been made a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings out of his treasure new and old things.”

The words of the wise are like goads; and like nails well fastened are words from the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

With him, I will speak mouth to mouth, even plainly, and not in riddles; and he shall see Yahweh’s form. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?”

as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those, there are some things that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
