And now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people’s faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them.Such people are not serving Christ our Lord; they are serving their own personal interests. By smooth talk and glowing words they deceive innocent people.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world?When one of you says,“ I am a follower of Paul,” and another says,“ I follow Apollos,” aren’t you acting just like people of the world?

Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly— not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example.And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never ending glory and honor.

For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between“ Yes” and“ No.” He is the one whom Silas, Timothy, and I preached to you, and as God’s ultimate“ Yes,” he always does what he says.

They preach because they love me, for they know I have been appointed to defend the Good News.Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me.But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice.

These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ.

And immediately he began preaching about Jesus in the synagogues, saying,“ He is indeed the Son of God!”

However, some of the believers who went to Antioch from Cyprus and Cyrene began preaching to the Gentiles about the Lord Jesus.

“ Everything they do is for show. On their arms they wear extra wide prayer boxes with Scripture verses inside, and they wear robes with extra long tassels.

So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus.

Even that question came up only because of some so called believers there— false ones, really— who were secretly brought in. They sneaked in to spy on us and take away the freedom we have in Christ Jesus. They wanted to enslave us and force us to follow their Jewish regulations.

Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him.And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,“ God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Philip, for example, went to the city of Samaria and told the people there about the Messiah.

And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message:“ Jesus is the Messiah.”

For I am afraid that when I come I won’t like what I find, and you won’t like my response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly behavior.

You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake.

Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.

So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.

This is the message of Good News for the people of Israel— that there is peace with God through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.
