“ Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone may flee. In addition, give them forty-two other towns.

“ Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities to go to for safety. A person who has killed someone can run to one of them. Also give the Levites 42 other towns.

“ The cities that you give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, where you shall permit the manslayer to flee, and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities.

“ Six of the towns you give the Levites will be cities of refuge, where a person who has accidentally killed someone can flee for safety. In addition, give them forty two other towns.

“ The cities you give the Levites will include six cities of refuge, which you will provide so that the one who kills someone may flee there; in addition to these, give forty-two other cities.

The cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall provide for the one who commits manslaughter to flee to; and in addition to them you shall give forty two cities.

“ Now among the cities which you will give to the Levites you shall appoint six cities of refuge, to which a manslayer may flee. And to these you shall add forty-two cities.

And the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give for the manslayer to flee unto: and besides them ye shall give forty and two cities.

“ The cities you give the Levites will include six cities of refuge, which you must provide so that the one who kills someone may flee there; in addition to these, give 42 other cities.

And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites[ there shall be] six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

Now from these towns that you will give to the Levites you must select six towns of refuge to which a person who has killed someone may flee. And you must give them forty-two other towns.

“ The cities which you shall give to the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the man slayer to flee to. Besides them you shall give forty- two cities.

So, as the Lord had commanded, the Israelites gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own inheritance: (niv)

So to the descendants of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron( a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Libnah, (niv)

from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead( a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim, (niv)

from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer, Jahaz, (niv)

The Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: from the half- tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan( a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Be Eshterah, together with their pasturelands— two towns; (niv)

In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem( a city of refuge for one accused of murder) and Gezer, (niv)

from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee( a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Hammoth Dor and Kartan, together with their pasturelands— three towns. (niv)

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. (niv)

It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain. (niv)

“ Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (niv)

My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. (niv)

These six towns you give will be your cities of refuge.Give three on this side of the Jordan and three in Canaan as cities of refuge. (niv)

“ Tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed you through Moses,so that anyone who kills a person accidentally and unintentionally may flee there and find protection from the avenger of blood.When they flee to one of these cities, they are to stand in the entrance of the city gate and state their case before the elders of that city. Then the elders are to admit the fugitive into their city and provide a place to live among them.If the avenger of blood comes in pursuit, the elders must not surrender the fugitive, because the fugitive killed their neighbor unintentionally and without malice aforethought.They are to stay in that city until they have stood trial before the assembly and until the death of the high priest who is serving at that time. Then they may go back to their own home in the town from which they fled.”So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba( that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah.East of the Jordan( on the other side from Jericho) they designated Bezer in the wilderness on the plateau in the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead in the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan in the tribe of Manasseh.Any of the Israelites or any foreigner residing among them who killed someone accidentally could flee to these designated cities and not be killed by the avenger of blood prior to standing trial before the assembly. Then Moses set aside three cities east of the Jordan,to which anyone who had killed a person could flee if they had unintentionally killed a neighbor without malice aforethought. They could flee into one of these cities and save their life.The cities were these: Bezer in the wilderness plateau, for the Reubenites; Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. (niv)

Look and see, there is no one at my right hand; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life.I cry to you, Lord; I say,“ You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” (niv)
