“‘倘若有人并非怀恨而是偶然推倒人致死，或无意间扔东西砸人致死，

若無仇偶然推人下、或無心擲物於人身、

“‘ But if without enmity someone suddenly pushes another or throws something at them unintentionally

“‘ But what if a person suddenly pushes someone else without being angry? Or what if that person throws something at someone else without meaning to?

“ But if he pushed him suddenly without enmity, or hurled anything on him without lying in wait

“ But suppose someone pushes another person without having shown previous hostility, or throws something that unintentionally hits another person,

“ But if anyone suddenly pushes a person without hostility or throws any object at him without malicious intent

‘ But if he pushed him suddenly, without hostility, or threw any object at him without malicious intent,

‘ However, if he pushes him suddenly without enmity, or throws anything at him without lying in wait,

But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or hurled upon him anything without lying in wait,

“ But if anyone suddenly pushes a person without hostility or throws any object at him without malicious intent

But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,

“ But if he strikes him suddenly, without enmity, or throws anything at him unintentionally,

“‘ But if he shoved him suddenly without hostility, or hurled on him anything without lying in wait,

select some towns to be your cities of refuge, to which a person who has killed someone accidentally may flee. (niv)

However, if it is not done intentionally, but God lets it happen, they are to flee to a place I will designate. (niv)

so that anyone who kills a person accidentally and unintentionally may flee there and find protection from the avenger of blood. (niv)

For instance, a man may go into the forest with his neighbor to cut wood, and as he swings his ax to fell a tree, the head may fly off and hit his neighbor and kill him. That man may flee to one of these cities and save his life. (niv)

If the avenger of blood comes in pursuit, the elders must not surrender the fugitive, because the fugitive killed their neighbor unintentionally and without malice aforethought. (niv)
