“ They were the ones who followed Balaam’s advice and enticed the Israelites to be unfaithful to the Lord in the Peor incident, so that a plague struck the Lord’s people.

“ The women followed Balaam’s advice. They caused the Israelites to be unfaithful to the Lord. The people worshiped the god named Baal that was worshiped at Peor. So a plague struck them.

Behold, these, on Balaam’s advice, caused the people of Israel to act treacherously against the Lord in the incident of Peor, and so the plague came among the congregation of the Lord.

“ These are the very ones who followed Balaam’s advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the Lord at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the Lord’s people.

以色列人住在什亭，人民與摩押的女子行起淫亂來。那些女子叫以色列人來，一同給她們的神獻祭，以色列人也吃了她們的祭物，跪拜她們的神。以色列人與巴力．毗珥連合，耶和華就向以色列人發怒。耶和華對摩西說：“把人民的首領都捉來，在我耶和華面前對著太陽把他們懸掛起來，好使耶和華的烈怒可以轉消，不向以色列人發作。”於是摩西對以色列的審判官說：“你們各人要把與巴力．毗珥連合的人都殺了。”摩西和以色列全體會眾在會幕門口哭泣的時候，以色列人中有一個人來，當著他們的面帶了一個米甸女子到自己的兄弟那裡去。亞倫祭司的孫子、以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈看見了，就從會眾中起來，手裡拿著槍，跟著那以色列人，進入臥室，把他們兩人刺透，就是刺透那以色列人和那女子。槍刺進了那女子的肚腹。這樣，在以色列人中的瘟疫才止住。那時因瘟疫而死的，共有二萬四千人。

他們離棄正路，走入歧途，跟從了比珥的兒子巴蘭的道路。這巴蘭貪愛不義的工價，

然而有幾件事我要責備你，因為在你那裡有些人持守巴蘭的教訓。這巴蘭曾經教導巴勒把絆腳石放在以色列人面前，叫他們吃祭過偶像的食物，並且行淫亂。

耶和華因巴力．毗珥的事所行的，你們都親眼看見了；所有跟隨巴力．毗珥的人，耶和華你們的神都從你們中間消滅了。

從前拜毗珥的罪孽，我們還以為是小事嗎？雖然有災疫臨到耶和華的會眾，直到今日我們還沒有洗淨這罪呢。

現在我要回我本族去了；你來，我要告訴你這個民族日後要怎樣待你的人民。”

因為他們用詭計擾害你們；在毗珥的事上，和他們的姊妹，米甸領袖的女兒哥斯比的事上，用詭計欺騙了你們。”這哥斯比在瘟疫的日子，因毗珥的事被殺了。

因為妓女是深坑，淫婦是狹窄的井。

我發現一個比死亡更惡毒的婦人，她有如羅網，心如陷阱，手如鎖鍊。蒙神喜悅的人得以擺脫她，罪人卻被她纏住。
