「七月初十，你們當有聖會；要刻苦己心，任何工都不可做。

“七月初十日，你们当有圣会；要刻苦己心，什么工都不可做。

“七月十日，你们要举行圣会，禁食，不可工作。

“‘在七月十日，你们要有圣会，刻苦己心，什么都不可作，

「七月十日，你們要舉行聖會，禁食，不可工作。

“‘在七月十日，你們要有聖會，刻苦己心，甚麼都不可作，

『在這七月十日、你們要有聖聚會，要刻苦自己；甚麼工都不可作，

七月十日、必有聖會、當苦其心、勿操作、

七月十日、必有聖會、咸止工作、卑以自牧、

七月十日、爾當有聖會、必刻苦齋戒、無論何工、悉毋作、

“‘ On the tenth day of this seventh month hold a sacred assembly. You must deny yourselves and do no work.

“‘ On the tenth day of the seventh month, come together for a special service. You must not eat anything on that day. You must not do any work on it.

“ On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation and afflict yourselves. You shall do no work,

“ Ten days later, on the tenth day of the same month, you must call another holy assembly. On that day, the Day of Atonement, the people must go without food and must do no ordinary work.

“ You are to hold a sacred assembly on the tenth day of this seventh month and practice self-denial; do not do any work.

‘ Then on the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy assembly, and you shall humble yourselves; you shall not do any work.

‘ On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall afflict your souls; you shall not do any work.

And on the tenth day of this seventh month ye shall have a holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls: ye shall do no manner of work;

“ You are to hold a sacred assembly on the tenth day of this seventh month and practice self-denial; you must not do any work.

And ye shall have on the tenth[ day] of this seventh month an holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls: ye shall not do any work[ therein]:

“‘ On the tenth day of this seventh month you are to have a holy assembly. You must humble yourselves; you must not do any work on it.

“‘ On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall afflict your souls. You shall do no kind of work;

至於我，他們有病的時候，我穿麻衣，禁食，刻苦己心；我所求的都歸到自己身上。

「這是你們永遠的定例：每年七月初十，你們要刻苦己心；無論是本地人，是寄居在你們中間的外人，任何工都不可做。因為這日要為你們贖罪，潔淨你們，使你們脫離一切的罪，在耶和華面前得以潔淨。這日你們要守完全安息的安息日，刻苦己心；這是永遠的定例。

航行的日子久了，已經過了禁食的節期，行船又危險，保羅就建議，

那時，我在亞哈瓦河邊宣告禁食，為要在我們上帝面前刻苦己心，求他使我們和我們的孩子，以及一切所有的，都得平坦的道路。

我告訴你們，不是的！你們若不悔改，都照樣要滅亡！」

「我們禁食，你為何不看呢？我們刻苦己心，你為何不理會呢？」看哪，你們禁食的時候仍追求私利，剝削為你們做苦工的人。看哪，你們禁食，卻起紛爭興訟，以兇惡的拳頭打人。你們今日這種禁食無法使你們的聲音聽聞於高處。這豈是我所要的禁食，為人所用以刻苦己心的日子嗎？我難道只是叫人如蘆葦般低頭，鋪上麻布和灰燼嗎？你能稱此為禁食，為耶和華所悅納的日子嗎？

我們知道，我們的舊人和他同釘十字架，使罪身滅絕，叫我們不再作罪的奴隸，

耶和華吩咐摩西說：「但是，七月初十是贖罪日；你們要守為聖會，刻苦己心，並要將火祭獻給耶和華。在這一日，任何工都不可做；因為這是贖罪日，要在耶和華－你們的上帝面前贖罪。在這一日，凡不刻苦己心的，必從百姓中剪除。凡在這一日做任何工的，我必將他從百姓中除滅。任何工你們都不可做。在你們一切的住處，這要成為你們世世代代永遠的定例。你們要守這日為完全安息的安息日，刻苦己心；從這月初九晚上到次日晚上，你們要守為安息日。」

當那日，萬軍之主耶和華使人哭泣哀號，頭上光禿，身披麻布。

我克制己身，使它完全順服，免得我傳福音給別人，自己反而被淘汰了。

我告訴你們，不是的！你們若不悔改，都同樣要滅亡！

「我要將那施恩與懇求的靈，澆灌大衛家和耶路撒冷的居民。他們必仰望我，就是他們所扎的那位。他們必為他悲傷，如喪獨子，又為他哀哭，如喪長子。

流淚撒種的，必歡呼收割！那帶種流淚出去的，必歡呼地帶禾捆回來！

如今我歡喜，不是因你們曾憂愁，而是因憂愁導致你們的悔改。你們依着上帝的意思憂愁，凡事就不至於因我們受虧損了。因為依着上帝的意思而憂愁，就生出沒有懊悔的悔改來，以致得救；但世俗的憂愁叫人死。你看，你們依着上帝的意思而憂愁，這在你們當中產生了何等的殷勤、甚至辯白、甚至憤慨、甚至恐懼、甚至渴望、甚至熱忱、甚至責罰。在這一切事上，你們都表明自己是無可指責的。

要親近上帝，上帝就必親近你們。有罪的人哪，要潔淨你們的手！心懷二意的人哪，要清潔你們的心！你們要愁苦，悲哀，哭泣；要將歡笑變為悲哀，歡樂變為愁悶。要在主面前謙卑，他就使你們高升。

問萬軍之耶和華殿中的祭司，又問先知：「我當如歷年以來所行，在五月哭泣齋戒嗎？」

哀慟的人有福了！因為他們必得安慰。
