For the Lord had told those Israelites they would surely die in the wilderness, and not one of them was left except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

The Lord had told the Israelites at Kadesh Barnea that they would certainly die in the desert. Not one of them was left alive except Caleb and Joshua. Caleb was the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua was the son of Nun.

For the Lord had said of them,“ They shall die in the wilderness.” Not one of them was left, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

惟其中二人、嫩之子約書亞、耶孚尼子迦勒、安然無恙。

其中多人為上帝不悅、使屍橫遍野、此可為我鑒、示我勿效彼嗜惡、

當告之云、我指己而誓、爾之所言、我必行之、爾出言怨我、故所見核者、自二十歲以上、俱暴骨於野、我所許之地、爾不得入、惟耶孚尼子迦勒、及嫩之子約書亞、可得而入。

試思上帝慈而嚴、視彼撥者固嚴、視乎爾者則慈、爾當常懷其慈、否則見折矣、

上帝於四十載中憾誰、非犯罪而暴骨於野者乎、上帝誓之、不許享其安息者誰、非不信之徒乎、

蓋此惡類悖逆乎我、我必降罰、使盡亡於曠野、我耶和華嘗言之矣。○

維爾知之素、欲俾爾憶之、昔主救民出埃及地、後滅諸不信者、

爾使人歸土、語之曰、爾儕世人、當返其本兮、自爾視之、雖歷千年、無異片晷、同於宵漏兮、人之沒世、譬諸夢寐、譬諸草之萌櫱兮、清晨向榮、芽發蕊舒、至夕翦刈、遂槁枯兮、爾震怒、則余毀傷兮、爾發憤、則予驚惶兮、

緣其欺我、故我所誓、錫厥祖之地、彼不能覯止、惟我僕迦勒、不同於眾、恆從乎我、故所往之地、必賜之人、遺於子孫。

時猶大支派至吉甲有基尼洗人耶孚尼子迦勒、告約書亞曰、昔耶和華諭其僕摩西、論爾我之事、爾知之矣。其時我年四十、耶和華僕摩西自迦鐵巴尼亞遣我、窺察斯土、我誠心以復命。偕行者使民喪膽、惟我竭忠遵從我上帝耶和華。當時摩西誓我曰、爾既竭忠遵從我上帝耶和華、爾足所履之地、爾可得之、爰及子孫、永為爾業。今我尚存、皆出耶和華所賜、自耶和華諭摩西、歷以色列族遨遊於野之時、四十五年、踐其前言、今我年已八十有五。

摩押地、耶利哥相向之所、有亞巴林山、尼破岡、汝可陟焉、瞻望迦南、乃我所錫於以色列族為業之地。既陟此山、汝必死於彼、而返其本、如爾兄亞倫沒於何耳山、而返其本然。

昔自離迦鐵巴尼亞時、至渡西勒溪時、三十有八年、於斯時也、斯代之軍士、尸骸消滅、應耶和華所矢之言、蓋耶和華攻之、使之喪亡、尸骸消滅。

以色列族自蘭塞遄征、至數割、計其人數、婦稚而外、壯健者約六十萬。
