斯民強甚、我非其敵、請汝至此、為我詛之、庶我擊之獲勝、驅之出境、蓋我素知爾所祝者、則必受祝、爾所詛者、則必受詛、

此民強悍、我非其敵、汝來詛之、使我得攻擊而獲勝、驅之出境、蓋我素知爾、祝人則人受福、詛人則人被禍。

其民較我強盛、請爾來為我詛之、或可攻而勝之、逐之出境、因我素知爾為誰祝福、誰則得福、爾咒詛誰、誰則受禍、

Come now, curse this people for me, since they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall be able to defeat them and drive them from the land, for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.”

巴蘭便發表言論歌來、說：『巴勒領導我出亞蘭，摩押王領導我出東山，說：「來啊，為我咒詛雅各，來啊，怒罵以色列吧！」上帝沒有咒詛的、我哪能咒詛呢？永恆主沒有怒罵的、我哪能怒罵呢？

給你祝福的，我也必給他祝福；咒詛你的，我也必咒詛他：地上萬宗族都必用你的名而給自己祝福。』

後來我們往禱告的地方去，有一個使女有巫覡的靈在身，迎着面而來；她行占卜術、使她主人們得了許多生意。

他愛咒罵，願咒罵臨到他；他不喜愛祝福，願祝福遠離他。他以咒罵為長衣穿上；願這咒罵如水進他內臟，像油入他骨頭。

但是有一個人名叫西門、向來在那城裏行邪術，自稱為有數的大人物，使撒瑪利亞的民族驚奇。眾人從小的到大的、都意向着他，說：『這個人就是上帝的能力，那稱為大能力的！』

上帝對巴蘭說：『你不可和他們一同去，也不可咒詛那族，因為那族是蒙祝福的。』

因為你們出了埃及、在路上的時候、他們沒有拿食物和水來迎接你們，又因為他們雇了米所波大米的毘奪人比珥的兒子巴蘭、來和你作對，來咒詛你。

那時摩押王西撥的兒子巴勒起來對以色列人爭戰；他打發人將比珥的兒子巴蘭召了來咒詛你們。

那非利士人對大衛說：『難道我是狗，你才拿着行杖到我這裏來啊？』那非利士人就指着自己的神來咒詛大衛。

那去召米該雅的使者對米該雅說；『看哪，眾神言人都一口同聲向王說吉祥話；你的話也必須像他們中間一位的話；總要說吉祥話呀。』

你儘管堅決進行你的符咒吧！進行你幼年所勞碌而行的，進行你許多邪術吧！或者能有用處！或者可以使人戰抖呀！你因你許多計謀而勞累；如今只管讓那些劃分天象、觀看星辰、在月初播知將來之事的、都站起來，救你脫離所要臨到於你的事呀！

因為我一定要使你非常榮顯；凡你向我說甚麼，我就作甚麼；只求你來、為我咒詛這族。」』

這些人所說的是虛謊的異象、是謊詐的占卜；他們說：「這是永恆主發神諭說的」，其實永恆主並沒有差遣他們，他們倒指望那話能應驗呢！

以色列王對約沙法說：『還有一個人、是音拉的兒子米該雅、我們可以託他尋問永恆主。不過我恨他，因為他傳神言論到我、總不說吉祥話，總是說不吉祥的話。』約沙法說：『請王不要這樣說。』

於是以色列王集合了神言人約四百位，問他們說：『我去對基列的拉末交戰可以麼？還是要忍着不去呢？』他們說：『你可以上去，主一定將那地交在王手裏。』

願許多族之民服事你，願許多國之民向你下拜，願你做你弟兄的主，你母親的兒子向你下拜；凡咒詛你的、願他受咒詛；給你祝福的，願他受祝福。』

這是因為他們沒有拿食物和水來迎接以色列人，並且巴勒反而雇了巴蘭來和他們作對，來咒詛他們；但我們的上帝卻使那咒詛變為祝福。

任憑他們咒罵吧；惟願你祝福；願那起來攻擊我的蒙羞愧；願你的僕人得歡喜。

麻雀怎樣飛來飛去，燕子怎樣翻飛，無緣無故而發的咒詛也怎樣不會應驗。
