“以色列啊，你要听！你今日要过约旦河，进去占领比你更强大的列国，那里的城镇又大，城墙又坚固，如天一样高。那里的百姓是亚衲族人，又高又壮，是你所知道的；你也听说过：‘谁能在亚衲族人面前站立得住呢？’

我们上哪里去呢？我们的弟兄使我们胆战心惊，说那里的百姓比我们又大又高，那里的城镇又大，城墙又坚固，如天一样高，并且我们在那里看见亚衲族人。’

我们在那里看见巨人，就是巨人中的亚衲族人。我们在自己眼中像蚱蜢一样，而在他们眼中，我们也确是这样。”

先前，以米人住在那里，百姓又大又多，像亚衲人一样高大。他们跟亚衲人一样，也算是利乏音人，但摩押人却称他们为以米人。

迦勒从那里赶出亚衲的三族，就是亚衲族的示筛人、亚希幔人和挞买人。

这些坚固的城都有高的城墙，有门有闩，此外，还有许多无城墙的乡村。

以色列人的地中没有留下一个亚衲族人，只有一些还留在迦萨、迦特和亚实突。

那里的百姓又大又多，像亚衲人一样高大，但耶和华从亚扪人面前除灭他们，亚扪人就占领他们的地，接续他们在那里居住。

他们从尼革夫上去，到了希伯仑。在那里有亚衲族的亚希幔人、示筛人和挞买人。希伯仑的建造比埃及的琐安早七年。他们到了以实各谷，从那里砍下葡萄树枝，上面有一挂葡萄，两个人用杠抬着，又带了一些石榴和无花果。

以色列人照摩西所说的，把希伯仑给了迦勒。迦勒从那里赶出亚衲的三支后裔。
