门徒对他说：“我们在这旷野地方，哪里有足够的食物给这许多的人吃饱呢？”

撒迦利亚对天使说：“我怎么能知道这事呢？我已经老了，我妻子也上了年纪。”

耶稣回答他们：“你们给他们吃吧！”门徒说：“要我们去买两百银币的饼给他们吃吗？”

门徒回答：“在这旷野地方，从哪里能找食物叫这些人吃饱呢？”

但那搀扶王的官长回答神人，说：“即使耶和华在天上开了窗户，也不会有这事发生。”以利沙说：“看哪，你要亲眼看见，却吃不着。”

马利亚对天使说：“我还没有出嫁（“我还没有出嫁”原文作“我不认识男人”），怎能有这事呢？”

“这里有个小孩子，带着五个大麦饼、两条鱼；只是分给这么多人，有什么用呢？”

他说这话，是要试验腓力，因他自己早已知道要怎样作。腓力回答：“就算二百银币买的饼，每人分一点，也是不够的。”
