If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me— if I have found favor in your eyes— and do not let me face my own ruin.”

他自己在旷野走了一日的路程，来到一棵罗腾树下，就坐在那里求死，说：“耶和华啊，现在够了！求你取我的性命吧，因为我不比我的祖先好。”

耶和华啊，现在求你取走我的性命吧！因为我死了比活着更好。”

“遭受患难的人为何有光赐给他呢？心中愁苦的人为何有生命赐给他呢？他们等死，却不得死；求死，胜于求隐藏的珍宝。他们寻见坟墓，就欢喜快乐，极其高兴。

这就是我所切慕、所盼望的：没有一事能使我羞愧；反倒凡事坦然无惧，无论是生是死，总要让基督在我身上照常显大。因为我活着就是基督，死了就有益处。但是，我在肉身活着，若能有工作的成果，我就不知道该挑选什么。我处在两难之间：我情愿离世与基督同在，因为这是好得无比的；然而，我为你们肉身活着更加要紧。

但要让忍耐发挥完全的功用，使你们能又完全又完整，一无所缺。

“惟愿我得着所求的，神赏赐我所切望的，愿神把我压碎，伸手将我剪除。我因没有违弃那圣者的言语，就仍以此为安慰，在不止息的痛苦中还可欢跃。

我的痛苦为何长久不止呢？我的伤痕为何无法可医，不能痊愈呢？难道你以诡诈待我，像流干的河道吗？

现在，求你赦免他们的罪；不然，就把我从你所写的册上除名。”

甚至我宁可窒息死亡，胜似留我这副骨头。

我为何出胎见劳碌愁苦，在羞愧中度尽我的年日呢？

太阳出来的时候，神安排炎热的东风，太阳曝晒约拿的头，使他发昏，他就为自己求死，说：“我死了比活着更好！”神对约拿说：“你因这棵蓖麻这样发怒，对吗？”他说：“我发怒以至于死，都是对的！”

耶和华已经免去对你的审判，赶出你的仇敌。以色列的王—耶和华在你中间；你必不再惧怕灾祸。
