Therefore I swore in my wrath,“ They shall not enter my rest.”

Thus says the Lord:“ Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest?

When I went up the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the Lord made with you, I remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.

Behold, I will bring them from the north country and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, the pregnant woman and she who is in labor, together; a great company, they shall return here.With weeping they shall come, and with pleas for mercy I will lead them back, I will make them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble, for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

Thus says the Lord:“ Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said,‘ We will not walk in it.’

And when you have multiplied and been fruitful in the land, in those days, declares the Lord, they shall no more say,“ The ark of the covenant of the Lord.” It shall not come to mind or be remembered or missed; it shall not be made again.

And he said,“ My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”And he said to him,“ If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

and the people of Israel set out by stages from the wilderness of Sinai. And the cloud settled down in the wilderness of Paran.

At the end of three days the officers went through the campand commanded the people,“ As soon as you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God being carried by the Levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place and follow it.Yet there shall be a distance between you and it, about 2,000 cubits in length. Do not come near it, in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.”Then Joshua said to the people,“ Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”And Joshua said to the priests,“ Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on before the people.” So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.

then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever.”

On that day I swore to them that I would bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most glorious of all lands.
