正如上帝曾说：“我在愤怒中起誓说，‘他们绝不可进入我的安息。’”但我们这些已经信的人能够进入祂的安息。其实造物之工自创世以来就已经完成了，因为圣经论到第七日时说：“第七日，上帝歇了一切的工。”又说：“他们绝不可进入我的安息。”既然最终会有人进入安息，而那些从前听过福音的人因为不信没能进去，上帝就另定了一个日子，称之为“今日”。正如多年后，祂借着大卫说：“你们今日若听见祂的声音，不可心里顽固。”如果当初约书亚已经让他们得到了安息，上帝就不必另定一个日子了。这样说来，必定另有一个安息日为上帝的子民存留，使他们可以真正安歇。因为人进入上帝的安息，就是歇了自己的工作，好像上帝歇了祂的工作一样。因此，我们要竭力进入那安息，免得重蹈他们的覆辙，因不顺服而倒毙。

军队回营后，以色列的长老说：“为什么今天耶和华使我们败在非利士人手下？我们从示罗把耶和华的约柜抬来吧，让它与我们同去，好从仇敌手中救我们。”

耶和华曾对他们说：“这是安歇之地，让疲乏的人安歇吧。这是安歇之地。”他们却不肯听。

摩西上山到上帝那里，耶和华从山上呼唤他说：“你告诉雅各家，告诉以色列人，

愿赐平安的上帝，就是那位凭着立永恒之约的血使群羊的大牧人——我主耶稣从死里复活的上帝，

在以色列人眼中，耶和华的荣耀在山上好像烈火。摩西上到山上，走进云中，在那里停留了四十昼夜。

“把这律法书放在你们的上帝耶和华的约柜旁，作为指控你们的证据。

看啊，天下之主的约柜要在你们前面过约旦河。现在，你们要从以色列的十二支派中选出十二个人来，每支派选一人。当祭司抬着天下之主——耶和华的约柜一踏进约旦河，往下流的河水必会止住，形成一道水堤。”那时是收割的季节，河水高涨，淹没两岸。民众拔营准备过河的时候，抬约柜的祭司走在前头，当他们的脚刚一踏进河水，

因此我在怒中起誓说，‘他们绝不可进入我的安息！’”

耶和华说：“天是我的宝座，地是我的脚凳，你们要为我造怎样的殿宇？哪里可作我的安歇之处？

那时，我上山去接受耶和华与你们立约的石版，在山上待了四十昼夜，不吃也不喝。

那时，上帝的约柜就在那里，亚伦的孙子、以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈任祭司。以色列人求问耶和华，说：“我们应该再去攻打我们的同胞便雅悯人吗？还是退兵？”耶和华说：“去攻打吧，因为明天我必把他们交在你们手中。”

看啊，我要从北方，从地极招聚他们，其中有瞎子、跛子、孕妇和产妇，他们要成群结队地回到这里。我必引领他们回来，他们必一路含泪祷告。我要使他们走在溪水边，行在平坦的路上，他们必不会跌倒，因为我是以色列的父亲，以法莲是我的长子。

耶和华说：“你们要站在路口观望，寻访古道，找到正路并行在其上，便会得到心灵的安宁。”但你们却说：“我们拒绝这样做。”

你们在地上繁衍昌盛的时候，人们不会再提及耶和华的约柜，不会再把它放在心上，不会再感到需要它，也不会再造一个。这是耶和华说的。

耶和华回答他说：“我必亲自与你同去，使你平安稳妥。”摩西说：“你若不与我们同去，就不要让我们离开这里。

“所有劳苦困乏、背负重担的人啊，到我这里来吧！我要赐给你们安息。我心柔和谦卑，你们要负我的轭，向我学习，这样你们的心灵必得享安息。因为我的轭容易负，我的担子很轻省。”

以色列人就从西奈旷野启行，直到云彩停在巴兰旷野时才停下来。

过了三天，官长走遍各营，吩咐民众说：“你们看见做祭司的利未人抬着你们上帝耶和华的约柜出发时，就要起身跟在后面。这样，你们就会知道路，因为你们从来没有走过这条路。但你们要跟约柜保持九百米的距离，不要走近约柜。”约书亚又对民众说：“你们要洁净自己，因为明天耶和华要在你们当中行奇事。”约书亚又对祭司说：“抬起约柜，率领民众过河吧！”他们就抬起约柜，走在民众前面。

你们就告诉他们，‘约旦河水在耶和华的约柜前曾经被截断，当约柜过河的时候，河水被截断了。这些石头要在以色列人当中作为永久的纪念。’”

那日我向他们起誓，要带领他们离开埃及，到我为他们预备的奶蜜之乡，世上最佳美的地方。
