They are to carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; they are to take care of it and encamp around it.Whenever the tabernacle is to move, the Levites are to take it down, and whenever the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall do it. Anyone else who approaches it is to be put to death.The Israelites are to set up their tents by divisions, each of them in their own camp under their standard.The Levites, however, are to set up their tents around the tabernacle of the covenant law so that my wrath will not fall on the Israelite community. The Levites are to be responsible for the care of the tabernacle of the covenant law.”The Israelites did all this just as the Lord commanded Moses. (niv)

David did not take the number of the men twenty years old or less, because the Lord had promised to make Israel as numerous as the stars in the sky.Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. God’s wrath came on Israel on account of this numbering, and the number was not entered in the book of the annals of King David. (niv)

These were the clans of Simeon.These were the names of the sons of Levi according to their records: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. Levi lived 137 years.The sons of Gershon, by clans, were Libni and Shimei.The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years.The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of Levi according to their records. (niv)
