Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and teacher of the Law, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to them all,“ This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.

Nehemiah was the governor. Ezra was a priest and the teacher of the Law. They spoke up. So did the Levites who were teaching the people. All these men said to the people,“ This day is set apart to honor the Lord your God. So don’t weep. Don’t be sad.” All the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.

And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people,“ This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept as they heard the words of the Law.

Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were interpreting for the people said to them,“ Don’t mourn or weep on such a day as this! For today is a sacred day before the Lord your God.” For the people had all been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.

七月初一日，祭司以斯拉將律法書帶到聽了能明白的男女會眾面前。

在那裏，耶和華－你們神的面前，你們和你們的家屬都可以吃，並且因你手所辦的一切事蒙耶和華－你的神賜福，就都歡樂。

你們和兒女、僕婢，並住在你們城裏無分無業的利未人，都要在耶和華－你們的神面前歡樂。

哭有時，笑有時；哀慟有時，跳舞有時；

簽名的是：哈迦利亞的兒子－省長尼希米，和西底家；

守節的時候，你和你兒女、僕婢，並住在你城裏的利未人，以及寄居的與孤兒寡婦，都要歡樂。在耶和華所選擇的地方，你當向耶和華－你的神守節七日；因為耶和華－你神在你一切的土產上和你手裏所辦的事上要賜福與你，你就非常地歡樂。

「你曉諭以色列人說：七月初一，你們要守為聖安息日，要吹角作紀念，當有聖會。

你和你兒女、僕婢，並住在你城裏的利未人，以及在你們中間寄居的與孤兒寡婦，都要在耶和華－你神所選擇立為他名的居所，在耶和華－你的神面前歡樂。

省長對他們說：「不可吃至聖的物，直到有用烏陵和土明決疑的祭司興起來。」

「七月初一日，你們當有聖會；甚麼勞碌的工都不可做，是你們當守為吹角的日子。你們要將公牛犢一隻，公綿羊一隻，沒有殘疾、一歲的公羊羔七隻，作為馨香的燔祭獻給耶和華。同獻的素祭用調油的細麵；為一隻公牛要獻伊法十分之三；為一隻公羊要獻伊法十分之二；為那七隻羊羔，每隻要獻伊法十分之一。又獻一隻公山羊作贖罪祭，為你們贖罪。這些是在月朔的燔祭和同獻的素祭，並常獻的燔祭與同獻的素祭，以及照例同獻的奠祭以外，都作為馨香的火祭獻給耶和華。」

我以前沒有律法是活着的；但是誡命來到，罪又活了，我就死了。

祭司以斯拉是通達耶和華誡命和賜以色列之律例的文士。亞達薛西王賜給他們諭旨，上面寫着說：

賜華冠與錫安悲哀的人，代替灰塵；喜樂油代替悲哀；讚美衣代替憂傷之靈；使他們稱為「公義樹」，是耶和華所栽的，叫他得榮耀。

我守喪的時候，沒有吃這聖物；不潔淨的時候，也沒有拿出來，又沒有為死人送去。我聽從了耶和華－我神的話，都照你所吩咐的行了。

又對那歸耶和華為聖、教訓以色列人的利未人說：「你們將聖約櫃安放在以色列王大衛兒子所羅門建造的殿裏，不必再用肩扛擡。現在要事奉耶和華－你們的神，服事他的民以色列。

耶書亞、巴尼、示利比、雅憫、亞谷、沙比太、荷第雅、瑪西雅、基利他、亞撒利雅、約撒拔、哈難、毗萊雅，和利未人使百姓明白律法；百姓都站在自己的地方。他們清清楚楚地念神的律法書，講明意思，使百姓明白所念的。

希西家慰勞一切善於事奉耶和華的利未人。於是眾人吃節筵七日，又獻平安祭，且向耶和華－他們列祖的神認罪。

就是聽見我指着這地和其上的居民所說、要使這地變為荒場、民受咒詛的話，你便心裏敬服，在我面前自卑，撕裂衣服，向我哭泣，因此我應允了你。這是我－耶和華說的。

如今我歡喜，不是因你們憂愁，是因你們從憂愁中生出懊悔來。你們依着神的意思憂愁，凡事就不至於因我們受虧損了。因為依着神的意思憂愁，就生出沒有後悔的懊悔來，以致得救；但世俗的憂愁是叫人死。你看，你們依着神的意思憂愁，從此就生出何等的殷勤、自訴、自恨、恐懼、想念、熱心、責罰。在這一切事上，你們都表明自己是潔淨的。

我的民因無知識而滅亡。你棄掉知識，我也必棄掉你，使你不再給我作祭司。你既忘了你神的律法，我也必忘記你的兒女。

這都是在約撒達的孫子、耶書亞的兒子約雅金和省長尼希米，並祭司文士以斯拉的時候，有職任的。

王聽見律法書上的話，便撕裂衣服，

所以凡有血氣的，沒有一個因行律法能在神面前稱義，因為律法本是叫人知罪。

以色列人不信真神，沒有訓誨的祭司，也沒有律法，已經好久了；

你們又行了一件這樣的事，使前妻歎息哭泣的眼淚遮蓋耶和華的壇，以致耶和華不再看顧那供物，也不樂意從你們手中收納。

王聽見律法上的話，就撕裂衣服，

「你們去為我、為以色列和猶大剩下的人，以這書上的話求問耶和華；因我們列祖沒有遵守耶和華的言語，沒有照這書上所記的去行，耶和華的烈怒就倒在我們身上。」
