But the earlier governors— those preceding me— placed a heavy burden on the people and took forty shekels of silver from them in addition to food and wine. Their assistants also lorded it over the people. But out of reverence for God I did not act like that.

But there had been governors before me. They had put a heavy load on the people. They had taken a pound of silver from each of them. They had also taken food and wine from them. Their officials had acted like high and mighty rulers over them. But because of my great respect for God, I didn’t act like that.

The former governors who were before me laid heavy burdens on the people and took from them for their daily ration forty shekels of silver. Even their servants lorded it over the people. But I did not do so, because of the fear of God.

我又說：「你們做的這事不對！你們行事不是應該敬畏我們的神，免得列國我們的仇敵毀謗我們嗎？

耶和華喜愛敬畏他和盼望他慈愛的人。

因慈愛和信實，罪孽得贖；敬畏耶和華的，遠離惡事。

因神降的災禍使我恐懼，因他的威嚴，我甚麼都不能。

這些事都已聽見了，結論就是：敬畏神，謹守他的誡命，這是人當盡的本分。因為人所做的事，連一切隱藏的事，無論是善是惡，神都必審問。

我在你們那裏有缺乏的時候，並沒有連累你們一個人，因為我所缺乏的，那些從馬其頓來的弟兄都補足了。我向來凡事謹慎，將來也必謹慎，總不要連累你們。

你們當中有誰是敬畏耶和華，聽從他僕人的話語，卻行在黑暗中，沒有亮光的，當倚靠耶和華的名，仰賴自己的神。

你們若只請你弟兄的安，有甚麼比別人強呢？就是外邦人不也是這樣做嗎？

甚至在未燒脂肪之前，祭司的僕人就來對獻祭的人說：「把肉給祭司，讓他烤吧。他不要拿你煮過的肉，要生的。」獻祭的人若說：「他們必須先燒脂肪，然後你才可以隨意拿。」僕人就說：「不，你立刻給我，不然我就要搶了。」這些年輕人的罪在耶和華面前非常嚴重，因為這些人藐視耶和華的祭物。

除了我不曾連累你們這一件事，你們還有甚麼事不及別的教會呢？這不公平之處，請你們饒恕我吧。

君王若聽謊言，他一切臣僕都是奸惡。
